I understand that in the third world pregnancy often results in the death of the mother.

How do other mammals avoid such events since they do not have doctors or medical care?

They don't.

All mammals can suffer complications from childbirth, and die. Ask any farmer, for example. (Cows, sheep, etc.)

Childbirth is particularly hard for humans though I think.

It is my understanding that one of the problems with human child birth is that the size of a human baby head is at the very limit of what the mother birth canal can pass.

Not sure if that is correct or not just something I had alway hear.
