@djjd62,
that's funny dj - I was thinking it'd be interesting to have a thread in which people listed their favorite names, but I didn't start it because I thought to myself that I'm a little more interested in names than most people are in general.

My name has been in the top 100 in most every country throughout the world for hundreds of years. I was surprised to learn that. When I was growing up, I was the only one in my class (out of a graduating class of 800).
Now it's much more common.

Both of my childrens' names are fairly common and popular. This fact almost stopped me from using them, except I said to myself, 'Screw it - they're my favorite names. I can't name them something else I don't like as much just to feel creative or unique.'

@aidan,
my name (joseph) was 13th most popular for the year i was born, and has been around that same place for almost a century, where as a name like shaniqua (sp), went from about 900th place in 1989 to about 54th place in 1992, and back down to about 900th again in 1996, a 7 year run, and never heard again

@djjd62,
Joseph is my favorite name for a boy. It's what I named my son. I just LOVE it...I knew from the time I was sixteen that if I ever had a son, I'd name him Joseph.
And when I did, I was living in Philadelphia and everyone asked, 'What'd you name your baby?'
I'd say, 'Joseph'.
'Oh, must be a junior, huh?'
And I'd say, 'No... there aren't any Josephs at all in my family.'
And they'd say, 'But you're not Italian...'
And I'd say, 'No..I'm not Italian.'
Then they'd say, 'So are you Catholic or something?'
And I'd say, 'No, not Catholic.'
Then they'd say, 'So why Joseph then? It's a pretty common name.'
And I said, 'I think it's a beautiful name - it means- God shall give a son- productive- Jehovah increases...also in the Bible, Joseph was the dreamer of dreams.
I still love it the best- and my son really likes it too.
Do people call you Joseph or Joe? I call my son Joseph, but everyone else calls him Joe.

My son's name is Joel. I picked names you can't shorten or nickname because I am irritated when people shorten mine. My daughter is Denise and her friends call her Dee. That's not too bad. But I hate the short form of my name.
