1996 Ford Taurus GL

When I depress the brake my tail lights won't light up and I can't shift the car into reverse or drive. The shift will not budge can anyone help me?

@redneckhin,
sounds like the brake light switch that is located at the pedal to me.

(a simple circuit test light will tell)
