I started a new job yesterday, too. I have left the realms of the retail store business for the kitchen of a really upscale pub/restaurant one. We'll see how this works out.

Er...(edited version )well, I did take a trip to a honey place so I could buy 12 pounds of beeswax. My youngest bought salmon for dinner and baked it with a maple syrup/soy sauce glaze. It was pretty quiet I guess but since we've been really busy lately it made for a nice change.

Hope you like the restaurant job. I'm still working retail. My boss just gave me a 4 month leave of absence so I can go north and renovate for the summer so I can't complain too much (well, not 'til September, anyway).

I was getting less and less hours at my old job. Enough was enough.

Are they really going to hold your job open until September? You must be special!

Ha! Our hours have been cut too so the co-workers in my department would be happy to pick up a few extra hours but for some reason the company doesn't want to share the wealth. They've got a line on a student who's worked there previously and would fill my place for four months instead (she's a university student from Quebec and is perfecting her English). I think they're interested in having someone who knows what's what come back before Christmas when hopefully it gets busy.

I can't believe it! I'm newly unemployed!

I got a call at 8:05 this morning, telling me I didn't need to come in anymore! I was due to come in for more training at 9am. This was after I (and 150 other people) had been hired on just last Sunday. I had 4 hours of training on Monday, and was scheduled for several more sessions.

The reason I was told was that "too many people had been hired". Huh? They couldn't have thought of this between my 2nd interview and day of hire? I quit my retail job for this gig. No big loss, but nonetheless.

I think it's bogus anyways, because I went right down to their office and asked to be paid out for the 5 hours of training for the Monday. I was given a slightly different answer, which I won't bother to go into. It's nothing personal, just business, type thing.

Crapolla! Back to square one, I guess.
