BY WHAT REASONING
IS SEXUAL ACTIVITY HELD IN ABHORENCE, in COMMON PARLANCE ?
For instance, if a carpenter accidentally hits his hand with a hammer,
he may well shout out: "O, ****!" to no one in particular.
In times of fierce anger, a man may CONFRONT another for perceived abuses,
in such language as: "u ******* son-of-a-bitch . . . ."
By calling him a "son-of-a-bitch"
he thereby accuses his victim and his mother of being dogs,
but he implies that the dog is particularly foul if he is involving himself in sexual activity.
If the same act is described as:
1 ) having sex, or
2) sexual union, that is deemed OK,
but if its referred to by (centuries old) slang, as "*******" that is the occasion for umbrage.
WILL SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS?
Dissatisfaction or a nasty mood is ofen expressed in sexual language,
e.g.: "where 's the ******* Dept. of Motor Vehicles?"
I coud see the logic if a potential customer were to ask:
"where 's the ******* Brothel?" That 's a reasonable question.
In an effort to convay the concept that some person or something
is loathsome remarks intimating masturbation r ofen attributed to him
or it; FOR WHAT REASON ? WHAT 's the connection ?
In general parlance,
slang remarks refer to sexual conduct as tho it is an abomination. Y ?
These psychological n sociological fenomena also seem to be age sensitive;
i.e., such expressions r received differently
when issued by children as distinct from adults.
Y is this ?
R these the expressions of disgruntled zealots for celebacy ?
I don 't frackin understand!
David
Why, David, how inconsistent of you--BSG I spelled "frack", pronounced "frak" with the C. BSG II spelled it phonetically, hence "frak", big as you are on your inconsistent version of phonetic spelling I should think you would have gone wholeheartedly with the BSG II version. But, no, you backslider you. Consistency thy name is not David. You are of course aware that "frak" served the purpose of "f*ck" (I'm not sure the software lets that word thru, which is why I pussyfoot) in BSGII and the TV censors let them get away with it and that it has to a degree passed into common usage as a word you can use where everyone knows what you really mean but no one can take offense, and at which certain people get really pissed because there is no legitimate way they can take offense tho they REALLY REALLY want to, which I find an intriguing concept.
There are compilation videos online on, I thinkj the SciFi channel website and youTube of people's favorite "fraks".
i'm a big fan of sexual activity, especially if there's another person involved
Everyone of us, with very few exceptions, is the product of a man and a woman getting down and doing the nasty. I suspect people are actually more tolerant of it than they let on.
Sexual cursing appears for the most part to be a phenomenon in the English language alone or a fairly recent addition to others older tongues. Most other languages curse using religion symbolism, methinks they were too polite to mention sex. Or they were more creative... Religion, of course, is the cause of our shame and the reason why sex is considered an ugly act in the first place but I do find it interesting we English speakers took swearing to a whole `nother level.
