OK, just one last one. Then I'll stop, I promise.

It's the excitement & the novelty of being able to do this, ya know? Embarrassed

I know what I said ...

But once ya start, ya can't stop!

So just ignore this, OK?

There were far better (visual) copies of this on youtube, but, blurry as it is, I love the early EC, too!

@Ceili,
No, I didn't Ceili.
But I've admired his talents for a long time. (sometimes tuning out during particular "phases" Wink )
Been to two concerts, so far.
He's got a certain integrity which I really admire.

@msolga,
Hey Ceili (if you're still here)

Here's that Eric Bogle version of And The Band Played Waltzing Maltilda, we were talking about on that other A2K thread earlier today...

I notice the visuals on this youtube video relate to Canada. (And why not? We were all in the same boat, hey? )

That's my favourite Colin Hay tune. I like Mr. Bogle. I used sing this song with a good friend of mine in pubs. It's a tough song to sing because you have to keep the hanky near by...
I'm curious do you celebrate (wrong word I know) Remembrance Day in Australia? Do you call it that? on Novemeber 11? Is it a national holiday? Do you wear poppies?

@msolga,
Is Martha popular in Oz?
I'm a huge fan of almost everything Ry Cooder has ever done. Brilliant man.

I've loved this Paul Simon song since the first time I heard it:

Peace like a river
ran through the city ...

I tried to find a clip of him singing it.

Not available ...

But here's the next best thing, I guess...

Elvis Costello again (He obviously knows a good song when he hears it! Smile )

@Ceili,
It's a terrific Colin Hay song, Ceili. Sorry about you needing the hanky! Smile

We do ( some/most people, anyway) celebrate Remembrance Day. We stop what we're doing for a minute's silence, where ever we might be at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month ..... . But more & more we are such a multicultural country in Australia. Who knows what these things mean to a fairly new migrant to Australia from say, Lebanon? I don't know ....
But to me (as a migrant myself) songs like this speak about the meaning (or the utter lack of meaning) of war itself. The sheer bloody waste of good young people ... it doesn't matter which generation, but the example of ww1 is particularly poignant, you agree?

@Ceili,
Martha is very popular with me, Ceili. I think she's great! (Rufus is pretty impressive, too! Very Happy But I honestly can't say with any certainty how popular she might be with most Australians.

Ry Cooder to me is integrity in music. That is a very rare thing! I'm glad he's received (some of) the appreciation he so obviously deserves! He's a gem.

My last youtube post for the evening. From Paul Kelly, an Oz living treasure. This video doesn't do him much credit, though...

@msolga,

From St Kilda to Kings Cross is thirteen hours on a bus
I pressed my face against the glass and watched the white lines rushing past
And all around me felt like all inside me
And my body left me and my soul went running

Have you ever seen Kings Cross when the rain is falling soft?
I came in on the evening bus, form Oxford Street i cut across
And if the rain don't fall too hard everything shines
Just like a postcard
Everything goes on just the same
Fair-weather friends are the hungriest friends
I keep my mouth well shut, i cross their open hands

I want to see the sun go down from St Kilda esplanade
Where the beach needs reconstruction, where the palm trees have it hard
I'd give you all of Sydney harbour (all that land, all that water)
For that one sweet promenade

Of course not.

Paul Kelly wrote it and sang it.
