Seems most of you already now how to do this, but I don't. Probably because I've never wanted to do this till now ....

So a simple explanation would be much appreciated!

@msolga,
Hi msolga,

Use "youtube" tags; they look like this:

Code:[youtube].......[/youtube]

Where I put the ellipses ("........") is where you would put the link to the video.

If you're not sure where to get the link, that's something else, but we'll start there.

@sozobe,
Here's an example -- hit "quote" to see what the code looks like.

Thanks, soz. It may be because I'm tired (right on midnight here) but I'm kinda not getting it! Embarrassed

What I'm trying to do is post from an online newspaper "page".

I'll look at this again tomorrow, when I'm more alert.

I hit "reply" first? (That's the only way I can get to hit quote)

@msolga,
Hmmm... isn't there a green "quote" button right next to the green "reply" button on your screen...?

("Reply" won't show you the code.)

Meanwhile, in dlowan's first post here she went ahead and quoted and you can see the code there, which saves a step.

No, just 3 green boxes: "reply", "select answer" & "report" ....

But don't worry about it now, soz. I really am going to bed!

Nighty night!

@msolga,
Must be because it is Msolga's thread?

You get the best answer box, instead of quote.

@dlowan,
Still here! Like a dog at a bone! Very Happy

Just went over to Rockhead's music thread. (lots of video links)
No green "quote" button with any of the posts there, either.
Could this be because I'm on dial-up, not broadband?

@msolga,
That is seriously weird!

However, it's immaterial to the task at hand...

Here's the code I wanted to show you:

Code:
[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hly0vuXPG-M[/youtube]

Just hand-type the "youtube" tags, don't worry about buttons. As in:

1.) Find the url for the video
(in this case, it is "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hly0vuXPG-M")

2.) Type
Code:[youtube]
right in front of the url.

3.) Type
Code:[/youtube]
right after the url.

4.) Hit "reply" or "submit" (whichever is on the screen you're using). Et voila! Video!

IMPORTANT NOTE: This works for videos from many places, not just YouTube. I don't say "all" because I've been stymied by one or two places, but almost all. If there's a video link, it should work with the "youtube" tags.

@sozobe,
Thanks again, soz. Been fiddling around, hand-typing away....

Will have a few more attempts at it tomorrow.

(Fancy that. A missing green "quote" button! Surprised )

@msolga,
Just want to say thanks for all your attempts at helping & advising, soz & Deb.

I have no idea why my "green quote button" is missing, but it would certainly make posting a video link a damn sight easier if it was there! The other solution might work, soz, but, I doubt that I'd be happy going through all that (including the potential stuff-ups, each time!) ...... So I think I'll stick with what is easily do-able & give this option a miss.

So for the time being, sadly, I'm passing on that option.

Thanks again. I wish I hadn't put you to all that trouble.
