How is it still under powertrain warranty, did you buy an extended warranty that's still good? Toyota sure the hell doesn't have a 100k powertrain warranty.

I purchased it.
I bypassed an extended motor/transmission type warranty because I knew i would not need that... and got the powertrain..

Obviously.. I didnt need THAT either.

@Slappy Doo Hoo,
boneheads.
Yeeeup.

i was just hoping beyond hope.. since you just hook the car to a machine, no real technical inclination needed there.. that they could do that one simple thing, then read the outcome of the test.

Trust me.. i wont be going back.

But I have to throw Rising Sun into that ring as well. They were the ones who did the clutch replacement
That guy told me there was nothing wrong as well..

Sounds like maybe a belt? My car whirs and squeals when the belt under the hood goes. Can't think of what the belt is called....

@Bella Dea,
I have looked at all of my belts. No wear, no flaking, no stress.. and the noise isnt located in the engine.. though it comes from that general area if that makes sense..

That's what you get for buying a foreign car ( Wink ).

@Bella Dea,
Yeah, bella... that superior build quality, better materials, and much longer life expectancy of those foreign cars can be really hard to deal with Rolling Eyes

@curtis73,
Foreign cars are the only ones which consistently pass our Air Care (emissions) tests. I won't say I'd never buy domestic, but I would prefer not to.

Last night someone was telling me auto workers made $70/hr... I think that's outrageous, but that's just my opinion, of course. $70/hr for doing what exactly? No schooling, no special knowledge... no wonder the Big Three are in trouble.

If anyone had had any foresight, they would have put the brakes on making SUVs a long time ago. They need a bail out because they're stupid? Blind? Arrogant?

It is a constant wwwhhhhrrrrrrrrrr. Car vibrates ..

It is effected by speed, seeming to dissipate at about 60-65mph.
If I turn left it is SUPER loud. If I turn right.. it gets quieter...

Probably a power-steering pump or some other part of the power steering system.

Have you ever checked power steering fluid in the car??

An 03 Toyota Corolla with <100K miles on it should be just barely broken IN, not broken.

I agree. Mine is a 99 Corolla with 110K and works just fine.

@Mame,
Keep synthetic oil in it, either Mobil-1 or the Syntec full synthetic.

@Mame,
The engines being made today are unlike those made in 1960; they can live a lot longer IF you treat them decently, and the synthetic oil figures into that. The synthetic oil does not break down chemically after 2500 or 3000 miles.

Older engines had a lifespan of 100,000 miles or thereabouts so it didn't matter.

@gungasnake,
Thank you, I had no idea they made synthetic oil. I drove a '63 Pontiac for ten years and the mileage on that baby was over 250K miles... closer to 300K, I'm sure.

She... you could try calling / emailing the Car Talk brothers on NPR. I don't know anything about cars, but I love listening to their show.

They can tell you all about WWWhhhrrrr sounds.

If it were an errissshhh errisshhh erisshhh sound I could tell you you might want to kick the hubcaps cause they are loose.

I'm with Gunga (good god in heaven!) on the synthetic oil bit.

I do a lot of stop and go on top of expressway driving and if I don't get the good stuff (ie, the synthetic) my car's performance sucks ass.

Again, I had no idea of synthetic oil. I'll have to check it out.

WalMart generally has 5-quart plastic containers of the stuff for around $20.

@Mame,
With your climate, Mame, you should really look into it. The viscosity of Mobil 1 doesn't seem to be affected by low temperatures. Not that it is especially cheap.

@roger,
Thank you both, I'll do that tomorrow, if my car will start. It's predicted to be minus 21 C tonight and I have no block heater, my car being a wussy BC one.
