Mikey is having some serious computer problems and he needs help. He went on a trip for a few days and his computer was a mess when he got back. His roommate has access to his computer, so what ever is happening wasn't caused by anything Mikey did. Mikey checked his programs and found a bunch of stuff that he doesn't recognize and they are:

Ad distroter
ADD distroyer
EZULA
interstitila add seliver by N-case
Lycros side search
Pad lookups by n-case
shop at home select agent
virtual bouncer

OK, now his problem is that he's getting bombarded with pop ups to the point where he can't do anything at all. He even gets the pop ups when he's off line. When he was I'ming me even his fonts on his writing changed by themselves. When he tries to go anywhere he gets a "web page unavailable" message.

Can anyone help me to help Mikey with this terrible problem he's having?

If he has an anti-virus program, run it. If not, have him visit one of the anti-virus program sites and use their online scanning service.

Have him run an anti-spyware program such as Adware.

You can find links to thosse resources in some of the recent threads on viruses in the Computer and Internet forums.

Install a pop-up ad blocker. You can find recommendations in another current thread in the same forums on A2K.

If he can't do any of the above because of the pop ups, have him use the CTRL - ALT - Delete key combo to pull up the task list. Then he can start shutting the programs carrying the ads. When that's done, have him go to "favorites" and remove anything he doesn't recognize, starting at the top. Honest, I had an ad insert itself into "favorites" and load itself and its friends as soon as I logged onto the internet. I've only seen that one once, but it is a dandy.

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, he has all that stuff and it's not working.

Roger
I just spoke with Mikey and he's going to do what you suggested. Jeeez!!! I had no idea that things could install themselves in your favorites. Thanks Roger, that's good to know.

Try SpyBot S&D

Its free (you can donate if you want to), it kills most ad loaders and roots out spyware and assorted other malware.

There's also LavaSoft's AdAware, the free version of which is limited by comparison though the paid upgrade is pretty powerful.
