What Rockhead said, but you might want to check the fuel pump shut off switch in the left rear corner of the hatch or trunk. Just push in the re-set button to see if the fuel pump shut off for some reason.

Would it start before you put in the new battery? And yes, that fuel shut off is a possibility.
