Emoticons/ Why Can't We Place Them Where We Want?

Reply Sat 22 Nov, 2008 01:50 pm
As all of you probably know, I like to use emoticons. Since the new incarnation of A2K, I have noticed that you can only use the emoticons at the end of the last word in your post, and the emoticon sits right next to the last letter of your post.

Sometimes, the end of a post is not the appropriate place for the emoticon. Is there any reason why we don't have the flexibility that we had before, or is it too much of a technical problem?

@Phoenix32890,
Beginning middle Idea middle end.

There are some JavaScript issues and parsing inconsistencies in a few scenarios that need to be worked on but they aren't limited to the end of your post.

Emotions are a response to what we decide to think. So thoughts should dictate our emotions but we allow emotions to dictate thoughts. It is an easy pattern to fall into and sometimes it may be necessary to feel our way through life rather than think our way through it.

@ehBeth,
Beth, when I do that the emoticon pops on to the end of the sentence.

@Phoenix32890,
They don't show up in nested elements. That's a parsing rule that might need tweaking in cases like font color but in other cases is important (e.g. it shouldn't be nested in an image tag).

@Phoenix32890,
In what browser? Are you sure you are opening the emoticon box and setting the cursor after doing so.

Edit: nevermind, I can replicate this in IE 7.

@Robert Gentel,
I am going to try it again. I use IE 7. Robert, it still pops to the end. I even tried it without using the color and bold, and it STILL goes to the end.

@Phoenix32890,
I just cut and paste them where I need them to be if they show up in the wrong place, or I learn them slowly over time and type them directly without using the shortcuts provided.

@Phoenix32890,
They are separate issues. I tweaked the parser and the color and bold should work now, the part where it goes to the end of the post in IE is a separate JavaScript issue that needs to be fixed for IE.

@Phoenix32890,
http://able2know.org/topic/120896-4#post-3366795

had this problem in august... switched to firefox and it resolved ...

BUT

why is it that when you click on a post number, in firefox, the post number url does not appear at the top (so you can't copy the post number and post it in another thread) - it seems on firefox that it stays on the first page you go on to. The only way to get the post number is to google the title of the thread, go onto the first page, then onto the page number where the post is - and then the url appears at the top.

oh, and another thing.... In RH thread, if I go into youtube to post a song, I have to take the url from youtube as opposed to the top browser url which keeps the thread url... usually the first thread when signing on.

(does that make sense - sorry, crap at explaining things)

@gustavratzenhofer,
How near is that future?

Should I be stocking up on ammo just in case it does come to pass?
