Years ago, when I was working on some quiet drilling projects along the Northern border lands, I killed 3 people in Nigeria . They were rebels that attacked our rigs and had shot and killed some of our people not to mention a close friend and my hevy equipt chief whod already been with me for several years. WE had a small detachment of US marines but we all picked up guns and fired in self defense. I got wounded badly and still, was more traumatized by the killings than the wounds. I can see how the Soldiers in Iraq are permanently scarred by in-country action theyd been part of.

I tell you, you never make jokes about killing people. The act stays with you forever, and unless youre some kind of senseless nut you feel a terrible guilt that only death will ease,.


I often think that much of my later problems with alcohol stemmed from this and a couple other evil events in my life.

Yes, I have shot and killed people.
It wasnt something I wanted to do, nor is it something I will ever forget.
I had no choice, it was purely in self-defense.
I was in the military at the time, and we were under fire.
I had to defend a marine that had been wounded, and we were in front of the rest of the platoon.
If I had not used a weapon, both of us would have been killed.

Its not something I will ever forget, and I still see the faces of the people I killed.
I hope and pray I never have to do that again.
