Why are my tags getting overwritten?

Can you look at other peoples tags yet?

It is something we've been able to do since the move to the new A2K format. In this version of the redesign, click on a person's name to view their profile then look on the Tags tab to see the list of tags they've used listed in the column on the right.

The tags, like the majority of users at A2K, are fucked up.

Oh, but if I see a tag, like "Sick Gun Nut" I can't see who posted that tag; I'd have to search through everybody's tags page. And since you can tag a thread w/o posting in that thread it would be almost impossible to track down who's really being a dick.

I'm more of a ****-stirrer; you should be quite used to that.

That will change, tags are supposed to be a way to categorize, save and recommend topics and not to comment anonymously. As a social feature it makes sense to see who's sharing and recommending the content and we are going to list who's tagged the threads both to give the community better insight into who is recommending the topics as well as to who is abusing the feature.

There will always be those who will abuse any feature that they can, and as long as there are enough people using tags usefully it will be outweighed by their use. We'll continue to emphasize the useful tagging and are making changes along those lines. Here's a start:

Now, if you like using tags to put vulgar comments on other people's threads they'll at least be displayed on your profile as well.

Of course, if cjhsa weren't being so rude to everyone his topics would be fixed by the community more often. Tagging threads is a way to save them, and recommend them for others (who follow your tagged threads for one example).

If his threads weren't cesspools of vitriol more people would be willing to tag them, and would remove the prank tags more often. Given that cjhsa is doing the same thing with tags and being vulgar and insulting is a big reason he's one of the only people whose topics don't get their tags cleaned up by more useful tags.

I first saw that one on this thread, and decided to copy it.

Interestingly, I don't think I've actually typed all of the tags attributed to me on my profile page. I do recognize most of them, including that one, but I think you must just soak some of them up some other way.

They are all tags by the user (or old forum selections from the previous site), perhaps not typed (maybe copied and pasted for example, or dictated..) but they aren't coming from anyone else.

That explains it. Those are the ones I didn't type.

Is it breaking protocol to use some tags that are mostly useful to just me? Like "Wilderness" for instance, to mark Gus's hilarious thread? Or "Idiocy" to mark moronic threads that I may or may not choose to comment on?
