Does Windows XP Have a Built-in Screen Capture Utility?

Anyone know if Windows XP has a built-in screen capture utility? I've done some snooping and can't seem to find anything.

If not, any recommendations on a freeware version that is not just a demo shell and is compatible with XP?

1. Press the PrintScreen button on your keyboard, next to F12 usually
2. Open any graphics program, such as the free Paint program that comes with Windows
3. Click Edit->Paste or press Ctrl+V

this works with every version of windows

PS: Alt+PrintScreen captures just the window you're working with to the clipboard (which will usually be smaller than the full screen)

Cool, thanks Monger. Last time I worked with screen capture utilities was back in Win '95 days with a DOS utility.

Thing is, 95 could do the same thing all on its own like that, too. Wink

Screen capture programs are odd things to me, since the OS already has the functionality built in & keyboards have a special button only for that purpose. Of course, most commercial screen capture programs have a few bells & whistles, but they are almost always unnecessary.

Fiddle with it... Ctrl + Print Screen gets you an image of just the top window (I think)...

Something like that...

It usually takes me two tries, but it's a handy thing for e-mailing error messages to the network admins...
