I dunno whether that applies to bats or not.

Nah! the Sefricans will only be allowed bats and balls, too.

In Australia, people with guns are called "criminals"

@margo,
Exactly - what a retarded setup. I suppose you call those that serve in your armed forces "criminals" as well. Such a sad state of affairs down under.

That freedom is of a purely HISTORICAL nature.

Things r going to get very ugly, very soon;
like going from the Weimar Republic into what next arrived,
or
like going from Czarist Russia into what next arrived,
but with current technologies of surveillance,
and those yet to be invented: I don t see much chance
of an end to it. U 'll like it, Hingehead; it 'll be like the Borg.

@OmSigDAVID,
Ah but David, it's your beloved Bush who made surveillance of citizens legal via the patriot act. What's ugly is that you reelected in an incompetent, and are still regretting losing him.

But thanks for offering something concrete about your fears. As America turns in Nazi Germany and/or Stalinist Russia I'll be saying, 'Well David said it would happen - even though neither of those regimes had the surveillance technologies he said will cause the the US's (or was it Australia's?) transition. '

That is factually inaccurate.
I know of no reason to love either Bush.
I 've said so many times.
However, thay both defeated candidates who were much worse.

Surveillance of citizens was legal long before the Bushes.
U have no idea what u r saying; u just fake it as u go along.
I don t like the Patriot Act, but its effects are minor:
spying on libraries to see what books suspects check out.

Having an incompetent is not necessarily BAD.
What 's much worse is having a COMPETENT authoritarian,
like Stalin, Hitler, Saddam or obama.

Very sadly, I think it 's going to be a black hole
of Borglike slavery to government that will suck down
our entire species.

Seems to me that in those situations, the first thing that happened was that citizens were STRIPPED of their guns.

How stupid is the left anyway?

And what the **** is with all the god damned clueless Aussies on this board anyway? Stay the **** down under and keep your heads stuck in the sand.

Smart enuf to know thay don 't want the victims to fight back
when the leftists proceed to strip away the rest of their freedom.

In Berlin, gun control was completed 2 nights before Krystalnacht;
just a co-incidence, no doubt.

@hingehead,
Actually, Mr Doggy Person, it amazes me that so often an attempt to have a discussion about some issue in Oz turns into a discussion of US politics. Jeez, you'd think we were a state of the US of A! Laughing

@msolga,
Really, it's a matter of people with a very limited scope of understanding cannot imagine any opinions other than their own, or a situation described or existing in any terms than their own limited world view. With people like ceej and I'mSickDavid, they just can't see much beyond the ends of their respective noses, and certainly cannot entertain any idea which is not consonant with their personal prejudices.

@msolga,
He damned well ought to be. It's his usual style. It's just another pathetic attempt to distance himself from the horrorshow of having prejudices and not being able to see past the end of one's nose.

Like all you have to do is say that someone else exhibits these un-natural characteristics and by the sheer magic of words you don't.

Excuse me while I find a drain big enough to do a hollow laugh down good.

Latest from GetUp, received today.
Advertising campaign coming up soon.:

Dear Olga,

What's the internet worth to you? The freedom of the internet is what allows the GetUp community to achieve change, but our Government wants to censor it with a system that threatens our democratic freedoms.

Would you give $5 for your internet freedoms? We've designed dynamic new internet ads to take our message online to an audience of millions. Can you give up $5 or more to save the net?

https://www.getup.org.au/campaign/SaveTheNet&id=474

In just one week, an amazing 85,000 fellow Australians have signed our petition to save the net - imagine the result if we spread this message far and wide to the millions of other internet users and signal to the Government that, together, we won't stand for this plan.

Our freedom to communicate online is under threat and it's up to us to respond. This people-powered movement relies on supporters like you to stand together and make a difference. For just $5 you can let 400 more Australians know about this campaign:

https://www.getup.org.au/campaign/SaveTheNet&id=474

Time and time again the GetUp community has demonstrated that when we all chip in to send a message to the masses, the sum total result is far greater than our individual parts. Let's take this message online together to defend our online freedoms.

Thanks for being a part of the solution,
The GetUp team
