The govt. of Australia clearly views the people of Australia as sheep and means to treat them as such. Only questions are, will the people (or sheep) tolerate it, and for how long and, being disarmed, is there anything they can do about it?

YES.
The FIRST de jure freedom to go is self-defense
and the practical ABILITY of self-defense.
After that has been successfully accomplished,
all of the other freedom can and will follow, on the oppressor 's schedule,
at its leisure.

@OmSigDAVID,
You're still amusing and appalling me. Shouldn't you be saving your own country from the doom that befalls it in January?

@hingehead,
You know, Boss . . . he really does believe that the inauguration of Obama spells doom. In another thread, he compared Obama to Hitler and Mussolini--and then tried to tell me that i'm no gentleman. He, along with many of the other wingnuts, believe that Obama will created a special security force dedicated to him personally, and they are comparing it to the SA (Sturm Abteilung--the Brown shirts).

Be interesting to see the websites the wingnuts get their programming from.

@dlowan,
I saw another thread in which Butterflynet had a link to a page at FactCheck-dot-org about this story. I'll go get you a link if i can.

Fact Check's page about the "Obama Gestapo" story

Usually, you can find the most egregious of the reactionary stories among the Freepers--the denizens of the bulletin board site, "Free Republic." But stories like this are "viral," as they say these days, and undoubtedly end up on thousands of sites within days--if not hours. I find that whether we're talking rightwingnuts or leftwingnuts, the same stories get retailed pretty damned quickly, and they don't even have sufficient shame to hide the plagiarism by altering the text.

@Setanta,
Yeah Set, I've already asked him on another thread to tell me what exactly Obama will do to his personal liberty so that I can check them off as they come true, but didn't get a response. Surely he realises that we are the mind police of the left and we report any vaguely right wing utterances directly to Obama's Stasi so the protagonists can be 'corrected'.

Keep your head down David, and up your dosage.

@OmSigDAVID,
um ... are you suggesting guns when you talk about "self defense", David?

Surely not.

We don't do things like that ... We get organized & protest & make our parliamentary representatives know that we are very, very unhappy with whatever they're doing that's caused the problem ... & that there could well be consequences at the ballot box.

Are you suggesting we should go out & shoot them, or something? (Heaven forbid! Nah, you couldn't be that crazy, surely!)

The ONLY time that I have advocated armed revolution (or counter-revolution)
was against the communists, during the 3rd World War;
(tho, in retrospect, I think it was a pretty good idea
when we did it during the American Revolution).

Well I'm pleased to hear that, David, because I doubt that many Australians (US citizens too, I suspect!) would buy into such a notion.

@OmSigDAVID,
Our violent revolutions involve cricket bats as weapons!

We're taking on the Sefricans next week!

In America, we have an aforism:
" never take a knife to a gunfight."
I dunno whether that applies to bats or not.

It never ceases to astound me how human beings can be so easily turned into sheep. Oh, gubmint, save me from myself! So, the gubmint comes in and "restructures" the pasture.

Then when the real wolves show up, they wonder what the **** happened to the shepherd and the sheepdogs.
