Isn't a PreOrder Suppose to, ya know,

HOLD your order so that when it is released you get it right away? Don't most places base their pre-order orders on the actual number of pre orders they receive?
I am kinda pissed because I preordered some software almost a month ago and I get an email telling me it's backordered and that it will most likely ship in 1-2 weeks. Meaning, I'll get it in 2-3 weeks. WTF? Why did I preorder? That was stupid.
I found it somewhere else and to emphasize my irritation with this pre order debacle, I canceled my pre order and now the software will be shipping to me 3 day UPS. I will have it by weeks end.

Am I delusional? Or are pre orders meant to PRE ORDER and reserve your item?

@Bella Dea,
Maybe the retailer got stiffed by their wholesaler.

@Bella Dea,
Some stores are more interested in just getting the order. I had a similar incident with two rather expensive camera lenses. I had already bought the camera bodies, with the lenses being backordered, ostensibly for a week or so. This company charged upfront, so I paid for lenses that I did not have.

After a number of weeks, I checked with the manufacturer's website, and found, to my dismay, that THEY were backordered on this particular lens, which comes from overseas.

I called the company where I bought the camera bodies, and they gave me a refund for the lenses. I looked all over the internet. I finally found the lenses in a company that was on the other side of the country. I think that we bought the last two lenses in the country!

@Bella Dea,
Best Buy is a tough vendor to order from, in my own experience.
