Ad-Aware not running

My free 2008 Ad Aware isn't running. It's not checking emails and whatever else it's supposed to scan. I tried to force it to run tonight and couldn't. I'm now scanning my program files with Norton A-V.

I asked it to start, after a few minutes I tried again and it said it was already runny. I checked the task manager and it didn't show AAD running. I checked processes and it was listed there. I stopped it (is this where I screwed up?). I tried to run it again and went through the same things. I checked the website for updates or security fixes and wasn't finding my way around to anything useful.

Can some one help me fix my Ad-Aware?

@littlek,
Lil' K, I hadda ditch mine again and start over (again...) last week.

They have a new "better" version, but I believe till I don't.

It won't run on my office antique anymore, and I dislike my new ones moreso...

(no more support for '98)

best of...

@littlek,
I'd just maybe delete it and start again?

@littlek,
Ah! I removed ad-aware 2008 and reinstalled it. It hung up (like it has been) while trying to update. So..... wait.............. wait! Download complete!

Phew!

@littlek,
So, download and update went through. I started an immediate scan and I got an application error (though the scan continues). Dunno what to make of that!

@littlek,
Ad-Aware is actually a spyware. I use Spybot, ZoneAlarm and Sygate. I forgot which one identified Ad-Aware as a spyware. One should really take it that freeware provide a service but uses your email to send you ads. That is whyI try not to downloadtoo many freewares. Even toolbars are spywares.

@talk72000,
Are you sure you're not thinking of Adware?

@littlek,
LIl'K, I gotta go into town today. I will try to stop at the shop where I have a machine in the office that is "only" running ad aware. I will test it, and get the version if I make it that far in...

@littlek,
Though I doubt it will make you feel better about your computer, it hasn't been working for me either. It's probably some sort of conflict with all the updates Microsquish has released in the past few months.
