My computer already has an AVG free edition for protection from viruses, etc; but - since I use a cable company for internet connection, they offer all their customers McAfee Security Suite at no additional charge. All I need to do is download it. I would have to remove the AVG first, before installing this, wouldn't I? I don't know if McAfee has that much to offer. Does anyone have any comments on the subject?
@babsatamelia,
babs, I have Norton 360, and have had absolutely no problems since installing it about two years ago. It's a bit pricey, but I got tired of computer crashes and losing all my travel pictures. Even now, I back up the "important" stuff on an external hard drive, and some on disks.
@babsatamelia,
i used to have several "protection" software programs and suffered from frequent "clashes" I now only use the free mcafee that i get from my isp---no problems.
@babsatamelia,
I've had no problems using the free McAfee through my isp either. Before going to that I used Norton and didn't have any problems either. I've been told that AVG is a decent freebee, so I don't know if it matters too much whether you keep that or go with the free McAfee. BTW, you should remove your current software before installing another virus protection software.
@cicerone imposter,
Hi everybody & Thanks a million, I always used Norton security suite or something like that also, since they also have the tune your puter up things.
I think I will go with McAfee from my isp.
@babsatamelia,
There was a recent thread about this on list I'm on.
For free the consensus was Avast was better than free AVG, and less troublesome than McAfee (Not free). I'm using sophos (not free but paid for by organisational licence) but am thinking changing my home AVG to Avast....
I really have no idea which is best. (Who? Me?
) But my computer tech has advised me in the direction of Trend (which I've had for a couple of years now. Prior to that: Mcfee (sp?), then Norton. Haven't had any problems with Trend, it's just the endless updates (daily almost)!
@msolga,
norton IMO, nothing else seems to be on par with it.. but i dont have a wide range of experience.
