@Miller,

For the 17th consecutive game, the Patriots' offense has surpassed 35O yards in total offense,
breaking the record of 16 games held previously by the St. Louis Rams from 1999 to 2000.

@Region Philbis,
It's too bad they have such trouble scoring points.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski underwent surgery on his
broken forearm Monday, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Patriots are uncertain exactly how long he will be out, but one source
said he expects Gronkowski to miss "probably a few weeks."

@Region Philbis,
I'd be shaking in my boots for the playoffs except that I don't know yet whom they'll face.

@Ragman,
Once again, this year, the Patriots aren't needing for offensive power. They're weakest in the area of defense.

So this loss of their tight end is bad but not catastrophic.

@tsarstepan,
I know it's not catastrophic..but being a fan who lived on Boston for much of my life...I like to dramatize.

Solution is...score 60...and run the clock down.

Toss in the water boy in a game, and he'll get a TD from 'em.

@Ragman,

thought they put forth one of their better defensive efforts of the year yesterday, holding them to a single TD in the second half...

@Region Philbis,
I think the new cornerback, Aqib Talib, will prove to be a huge asset. He has a spotty past, so let's hope he keeps out of touble. This allowed them to move McCourty to Safety, where he is best suited.

the globe's Dan Shaughnessy on how Coach Bill likes to handle his league-mandated media sessions...
Quote:
Here’s part of the transcript from Bill’s Monday presser:

Q: Has Rob Gronkowski had surgery today?

A: As I said, I really haven’t met with our doctors and trainers yet today. I do that at the end of the day.
I don’t have any updates. Whatever the injury information is, we’ll release it in a timely fashion, when
we’re required by the league, just like we always do.

There it is again, people. That’s Bill flipping off the NFL. And you love him for it.

There’s no competitive advantage to this. I mean, do we really think the New York Jets are game-planning
for Gronk, and will be stunned Thursday night when the big fella fails to dress for the game?

Of course not. This is just Bill Being Bill. Ask him if today is Tuesday and, unless he is contractually obligated
to answer, he’ll say something like, “Well, traditionally, Tuesday is the day after Monday — the day before
Wednesday — but I have not spoken with our calendar people. Whatever the day is, we’ll release that information
in a timely fashion, when we’re required by the league, just like we always do.’’

The range of stupidity here is vast. Belichick stonewalls just because he can.

@Region Philbis,
(chuckles)

OTOH, his decision to allow Gronk to participate at the end of the game when he broke his forearm will haunt him in the playoffs. FWIW, I don't need his validating that opinion or even his commenting on it either.

Gronk is responsible for about 40% of team's total of TDs. His value to the team is only a shade less than Brady's. No, he couldn't have foreseen his getting injured, but why bother taking the risk at all with almost a zero chance of any reward.

Warrior or gladiator mentality be damned. A good general allows his troops to live on to win the war - picking the battles.

Patriots feast on miscues by Jets

Just when it seemed the blend of Thanksgiving dinner Tryptophan and a boring opening 15 minutes
of football in the Patriots-Jets rematch would lull even the most diehard fan into an early slumber,
one team at MetLife Stadium decided to inject a little excitement into the proceedings.

Unfortunately for most of the assembled fans, it wasn’t the Jets. Though by halftime the team and
its fans probably wished what they’d experienced during the second quarter was a nightmare and
not reality.

After holding the Patriots scoreless in the first quarter — the first time that’s happened this season
to New England — the Jets then saw the game, and their season, implode.

Embarrassed at home, 49-19, New York fell to 4-7 while New England is now 8-3, 4-0 in the AFC East.

It was Bill Belichick’s 200th career win, just the eight coach in league history to hit that number, and
though he would never say it, it was likely a bit sweeter that it came against the Jets given all the
history he has with the organization.

@Region Philbis,
Be grateful that Brady isn't playing today. Imagine if he threw and completed 12 passes in this hypothetical game?
