Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Hi guys, I just got an email with a news report that I wanted to make sure you've all heard about.... Sorry if you've been bombarded with this already, I know it's making the email rounds, but it seemed worth posting anyway just in case!

It's a six-minute news report; I think it's worth watching because of the video of what inflammatory breast cancer looks like-- there's a text version on the news channel's site too, but it doesn't have any pictures, so that's not very helpful... You really want to see what this looks like, because apparently a lot of doctors don't recognize it and think it's just a bug bite.

Anyway, here's the link: http://www.komonews.com/ibc/
there's a list of videos on the right, the first one on the list is the one I watched...

Great, one more thing to worry about.
Mad
It baffles me that doctors and CANCER CENTERS don't know about this.

I suspect it's a recent thing (in the last 20-40 years), that's cropped up due to our lifestyles and the state of our environment. *sigh* It's just not fair. These women could have been saved. At least now there is a growing awareness and those women did not die in vain.

@Bella Dea,
What do you mean they don't know about it? I've read about it for years.

@ossobuco,
She's referring to how much difficulty the reporter who did this story had in finding information from cancer centers--she called several hotlines and the representatives didn't know what it was, the Susan G Komen foundation website wasn't very informative (they've updated it now), etc.... She talks to quite a few women whose doctors didn't know what they were looking at and misdiagnosed them. Good that you've known about it, but apparently it's not as widely understood as you'd hope.

@cyphercat,
Ok, I get you. Wonder who those reps were. And I agree the appropriate doctors should know about it.

That's just what I was about to say--that's the problem. Confused

Just keep an eye out for inverted nipples or swelling-- there's a lame joke in there somewhere, I can't come up with it...Where's Gus?

MRI with tracer tags will pick up many hot spots missed on a mammogram.
