@Bi-Polar Bear,
Old? We are about the same age and I am not old. I do not intend to get old. I will not accept oldness. Are you old?

@Intrepid,
I'm not old in mind or spirit. But my body often does not agree. I HATE having the will and desire and not being able to muster up the stamina any more.

@Bi-Polar Bear,
"Old" is ten years older than whatever age I happen to be....

Actually, I'm thinking of changing the rule to be 15 years.

@Intrepid,
I am not old but my body thinks it's getting old.....and it sucks.... I fear being a youthful guy trapped in a decaying body...

being old sucks in modern culture because the elders are not respected for their life's accomplishments nor appreciated for their acquired wisdom. Elders are a wasted resource, thus being old is robed of most of the rewards most cultures historically have bestowed upon the elders.

Our cultural fetish for the new has many costs.

I think that is pretty much inevitable, unless you die before it happens. Or would you rather be an old guy trapped in a decaying body?

@hawkeye10,
that's not why I think it sucks.... I just don't like taking "maintenance medications" and not having a quick recovery time... and naps....

@Bi-Polar Bear,
oh I see, your body is your host but is not you.......

This thread is about your having not integrated mind and body then. In that case old age for you is the opportunity for spiritual growth and increased self awareness.

I am not casting stones, you are going through a normal part of the adventure that is life

@Bi-Polar Bear,
'Tis crap when the body doesn't do what you want it to do.... I gotta an old body that doesn't co-operate with how I want to live ... tho it looks normalish - it's eaten inside... but the head is really young - 'tis scary Bear when you think you head is gonna overtake your body.... but, you can't do ought about it other than live young and take your naps! Naps can be fun! Right?

I don't look at getting old as sucks. Actually, I feel very fortunate to have lived this long. My father passed away at age 32, and I'm now 73. Getting old is not for sissies; as our body ages, we have more physical limitations, and our brain doesn't quite accept the fact that we can no longer do things when we were younger.

I can still work in my garden and work up a sweat with the best of them, but I don't climb ladders or carry very heavy garden materials. When I do, I try to keep my back straight and work my knees rather than my back.

I've done more traveling during the past several years than any time in my life, and have enjoyed them all, but will slow down beginning this year - down to five or six from seven or eight. More of my travels are cruise related where I can enjoy good food, and meet interesting people. But I must say that my trip to Central Asia in May was a real winner - following the route of the Silk Road.

The McTags (from the UK) are coming next month to visit the western states, and I'm looking forward to showing off what we have in Northern California.

So life even at my age remains challenging, fun, and full of surprises.

don't get me wrong... I'm not lying down...I'm still hustling and in fact am selling a new promotion that is taking off right now while maintaining my other gigs and starting to play live again.... but it still sucks getting old... I had to get a new scrip yesterday that i'm going to have to stay on that was 175.00...generic... and there's another problem I have to see a specialist about.... I'm not a quitter but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck....

hawkeye suggests us older ones should integrate "mind and body " - hope nobody minds if i try to keep them separate for the time being - GRIN !
i'm having trouble enough to maintain "mind and body" even when they are somewhat separate .
