I've had my unit about 14 years and every 18 months or so the cycles will start sticking and the float valve in the back of the unit will stay filled with water blocking the brine fill. Not a problem, I usually just call theservice people and they come out and replace the o-rings check it over and all is good again. Until this latest round.
The "service" guy came out and I told him what was up, he ignored me and pushed a few buttons on the display and said "your computer is dead it should respond..." I said check again it functions just fine for me. He tried again and it worked - I think he was just trying to scam me personally. After that he goes about his buisness of replacing the o-rings and says he's done. I take a quick peek at the unit and notice the float valve still full of water and mention it to him, he says it doesn't matter if it's full or not it'll still work. I said it's NEVER worked that way since I've owned it, he basically says he's the tech and knows what he's doing and leaves.
The next day I kick off a manual cycle and sure enough the first cycle (brine fill) doesn't fill the tank since the valve is blocked. I manually put some water in the tank so it can recharge.
I call the service people the next day and have to argue with them to send someone back out to see why it's still not working right. I tell them I'll be home at a certain time and not to be there before then. They send the same guy out, before the time I told them so I can't be there to show him what is wrong (the wife has no clue) and this clown is still telling me that's how it works. If there's water in there it won't fill, if not it will. Well I tried a manual cycle again tonight, but this time I pulled the fill line up so it wasn't in the water at all and the damn thing still doesn't fill (as I expected since the float valve is stuck at the top).
Is this normal? Shouldn't the float valve (I think he called it a tri-guard) be empty after a regen?
Anyone know the key sequence to do the quick cycle (seconds instead of minutes) on a Rainsoft unit?
Did the tech replace the brine injector or the two tiny O rings on the brine injector?
The brine injector is a long plastic straw like tube that is located deep inside the control valve.
Most everything needs to come off of the valve to gain access.

WHAT CAN H2O MAN DO FOR YOU?
I think he only replaced the larger o-rings (3 I think) inside the unit.
Will the brine fill work if the float valve is full of water and the brine fill tube is blocked by the float ball? It has never worked that way since I've owned the unit and doesn't seem to work that way now. The tech said it would that it didn't matter if the float valve was full or not?
I had the instructions written down at one time for doing the quick test cycle (seconds instead of minutes), but I can't locate them now. Do you know the key sequence for this so I can check this thing again without waiting several hours?
Thanks
A different tech needs to come back an service the brine injector - everything should function once this is done.
I can email the instructions (PDF) to you...
Thank you for the info (the PDF would be very appreciated).
I called to have a tech come back out. They were going to send the same tech back AGAIN and I said NO send a different tech this time. Hopefully this one will at least give me a couple of minutes to explain what's happening - I'll make sure he checks the brine injector.
Thanks again.
