Bid to be bridesmaid

Ebay bid to be bridesmaid

ok, short version.

bride and groom have no money, put listing on ebay to bid to be 5th bridesmaid to pay for wedding.

A guy the works for snapple/dr. pepper wins with $5,700 bid. snapple/dr. pepper says it will just donate $10,000 to the couple, and perhaps there will be a "celebrity bridesmaid"

Besides the guy, which obviously ended up being a marketing opportunity....there were lots of other bids, from complete strangers.

My question....Why would someone pay good money to be a bridesmaid in anyone's wedding (besides the regular costs of being a bridesmaid), let alone a strangers?

Is there some group of women out there that are so caught up in the drama, materialism, whatever else, they fantasize about bridesmaid opportunities?

I've been a bridesmaid 4 times. Did it because I was asked, not because I was so excited about wearing look a-like dresses.

this is america... so to wonder if there are people who are not materialistic .. is .. odd..

There are women who want to be a bridesmaid because they think that is where you will find Mr Right.

There are people who believe that " everyone deserves a wedding" like that, so they will participate ' for the greater good'

there are people who think as a woman, they -should- be a bridesmaid .. as if being a bridesmaid is some kind of confirmation of who they are

there are many people who just cant stop thinking that the wedding is the fairy tale best day of a womans life.. Rolling Eyes

Of course, who could turn down the opportunity to wear one of these stunning dresses?:

oh greenwitch, I kid you not....

those baby blue numbers look very similar to something I was given the honor of wearing as one friends bridesmaid.

No parasols at least. Ours went down to the floor with one of those huge flounces, and the dresses were off the shoulder with an equally large ruffle to accent our decolletage.

The zenith of that experience was when the band struck up "Devil in a Blue Dress" and all us pretty maids were herded out onto the dance floor to do our individual interpretations of the song in dance.

If I was the person I am today, I think I would have gotten on my hands and knees and started slamming my forehead on the floor.

I think the designer of those muslin sprig dresses was Holly Hobby.

I wish I had a picture of the worst bridesmaid dress I ever was stuffed into. We all looked like pinatas.

I would never have made a bid to be the 5th bridesmaid - it would have to be for the honor of being the maid of honor!

But why you say? -
It gives some one the opportunity to wear an ugly dress that cannot be worn for any other reason (except perhaps a Halloween costume which is what I did with one of mine).

It gives you the chance to bow down and be a slave to a bridezilla

To give a hokey wedding shower and attend a sleazy bachelorette party

Sounds like a dream come true to me!

What is it with these ugly dresses? Does the bride want to make sure
no one outshines her? Why would anyone choose such hideous outfits,
and let me ask you another question: do you have to pay for your own
dress?

Those are a joke! (I'm pretty sure). I've only been a brides mate once - for my sister's wedding. The dresses were very nice, too nice. Halloween, you say? Hmmm....

er, edit: bridesmaid dresses - I guess the brides mate would be the groom.....
