Rainsoft water softener

Why were you given a Rainsoft? Or more importantly, why did someone get rid of one?

Receiving used equipment can be very risky in both the condition of the equipment and properly setting it up to it new water conditions. But since you got it for free... give it go.

I don't carry manuals for that company but someone else may be along.

Andy makes some excellent points ...

7x44 is a tiny softener - I think the tank has a total capacity of .75 cubic feet.
It may be smaller than you need. On the other hand, if it's just you and you don't use much water - it may be just right.
If it has a electro-mechanical timer I think I have a PDF that I can email you.

Can you post a clear picture of the control valve?
