i have a garage door opener (genie) and a few weeks ago I had some work done in my garage and I think someone might have bumped the light thing that keeps it from shutting because now it won't shut without holding the switch down continuously, also neither of the remotes work at all. How do I realign the light thing?

You can try this troubleshooting guide.

http://www.genie-garage-opener.com/gegadoopbatr.html

There is a link to the left on that page with manuals and the installation/alignment procedures too.

thanks all;
what I have been doing is trying to adjust the light sensor with the flashing red led and got nowhere, so I went to the other side that has no light sensor and jiggled it a bit and viola the red light stayed on (no flashing) and the door opens and closes no problem.

I'm learning to watch for leaves under the door gasket. (I know that wasn't your problem, Dys.) Either my door/g. door frame or the concrete isn't exactly level, not a surprise.
