Hello,
Sorry this is long... My old water softener is not working anymore. I have been slowly looking, and came across a RainSoft Amazon Gold Water Softener. The man said he pd. 4K brand new 5 years ago. He says he has it serviced every year, and it runs fine, he was just tired of buying salt, so he dug a new well. I have many questions, can you tell me the good, bad, & ugly.

I have learned they are overpriced, what would you say is a good $ for a 5 year old system? There is a Iron Remover, taste remover, and potassium tank.

Can you buy salt anywhere or through them? What is the avg. cost if you have to buy it through them? How long do these systems usually last? Anything else would be appreciated!

I say no, don't buy it, they are not very good and he has more than just a softener. The equipment probably wasn't working well and he decided to drill a new well instead of fixing or replacing the equipment.

You also don't know what size softener you need. No one but RS can work on it or get you parts for it. So I suggest a new correctly sized softener.

RainSoft makes nothing. RainSoft dealers sell items that are made by
another company to RS specs and the RainSoft private label is added.

I don't recommend anyone buy any RainSoft equipment new or used.

Well I am on the other end of that. I do have a Rain Soft system and for the last 4 years its working fine. I had one of those Callaghan ones and the water was junk and there service was really bad. I live on a salty well and the system makes the water not mess up all my sinks and toilets. My RO system is just and good as bottle water. Never needed any parts. Get my filters thru other companies. You just have to do a little surfing to find a good price. Yes, Rain Soft is on the high side.. the one RO filter they wanted $275 I found a place in FL to ship one to me for $100 that was the charcoal filter which needs to be replace about 3-4 years for my type of well water. Everyone has different water. I live in MI. I would say do your searching around and see what every one is saying. I am also selling my system do to me moving to a house with city water. Amazon Gold whole house and Ultrefiner RO system. Good luck Dotell and hope you find something..
