Here we go

In the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server' field type send.xtra.co.nz

do not check the SPA (Secure password authentication)

=========================================

To setup the new mail account in Outlook Express:

*
Open Outlook Express
*
Click on 'Tools' then 'Accounts'
*
From the 'Internet Accounts' screen click on 'Add' then select 'Mail' from the drop down menu
*
Type your name into the 'Display name' field as you would like it to appear in the "From" field of your outgoing messages and click next
*
Type your full email address ([email protected]) into the 'Email address' field and click next
*
The 'Email Server Names' screen requires the following information:
o
Select 'POP3' for 'My incoming mail server is a'
o
In the 'Incoming mail (POP3) server' field type pop3.xtra.co.nz
o
In the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP) server' field type send.xtra.co.nz
o
Click the 'Next' button
*
The 'Internet Mail Logon' screen requires the following information:
o
In the 'Account name' field enter your Xtra email username (your email address without the "@xtra.co.nz")
o
In the 'Password' field enter your Xtra email password
o
Tick the box underneath labelled 'Remember password'
o
Important: Do not tick the box labelled 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)' as this setting will prevent you from being able to send or receive email
o
Click the 'Next' button

#
Click on 'Finish'
#
From the 'Internet Accounts' screen select your new Xtra email account you have just set up (may be called "pop3.xtra.co.nz") and click on the 'Properties' button
#
Click on the 'Servers' tab and at the bottom of the screen under 'Outgoing Mail Server' tick the box labelled 'My server requires authentication'
#
Click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top

*
Tick the box underneath 'Outgoing mail (SMTP)' labelled 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)'
*
In the 'Outgoing mail (SMTP):' field enter the port number 465
*
Tick the box underneath 'Incoming mail (POP3)" labelled 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)', then click OK
*
The port number in the 'Incoming mail (POP3)' field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, make sure the port number is set to 995
*
Click OK

#
On the 'Internet Accounts' screen, click Close

I have made some edits to the above info.

Just confirm with me (once you have read this post) that you have followed ALL the instructions. including the stuff about port 465 etc.

If you have done all of it including the port stuff then I am out of ideas.

Surely there is a 24 hour help lin at your ISP?

Somehow I doubt it would be your antivirus or firewall.

Turning your AV off is the easiest way to find out.

just turn it off and that will eliminate your Av as the source.

Sorry I cant be of more help

It means the recieving port on your computer is not open I think.

The port number in the 'Incoming mail (POP3)' field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, make sure the port number is set to 995

My ports are set to:

outgoing mail [SMTP] 25

Incoming [Pop3] 110

This server requires a secure connection [SSL] box is NOT ticked.

Changed it back but its the same, I think the main problem is based around the logon and the security since that is what is preventing me from getting on, receiving emails isnt the problem its the fact that I'm not authorized to do that. =.= if that makes any sence

try logging in to your account for your ISP
