Ford F-350 was standard for the oil field roads for years. Chevy suspensions weren't up to the rough roads, and Dodge didn't make a crew cab. Nissen is working it's way into the game.

These are all full size vehicles. Don't know how the little fellers are holding up.

You did say 4WD. I chose to ignore that.

Bottom line... If you want a small 4x4 that is dead nuts reliable, get a Toyota. The other Japanese offereings like the Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Mazda are all fine alternatives, the the hands down winner is Toyota.

The American offerings are fine. They don't offer the reliability, but at least parts are cheap in the states and you can usually fix them in 20 minutes with common hand tools Smile

I had a 95 S10 with 140k miles that sold for $200 with a sick engine. I had an 86 Toyota with 220k that sold for $1500 with lots of life left in it. Resale value should be part of your decision.

sis you watch the polar adventure?

It would have been "easy peasy" with a winch.... well perhaps not easy but easier.

Hands down, Toyota. End of story. Almost all of the compact trucks will have independent front suspension which is a little weaker in terms of ultimate offroad strength, but in 99% of 4wd use they'll never fail.

Toyotas are bulletproof, reliable, and kick serious butt.
