Whole house well system installed Feb. 2000. Mechanical 14 day timers.
Timer on carbon tower is not moving at all and I hear a humming noise that isn't normal. I'm thinking the timer motor is bad. I've seen one on a website for $42, which is way cheaper than calling Rainsoft. Any thoughts as to possibilities? Thanks. cbd.

I bet it's a sheared pin, bad O rings or maybe a worn out index lever and anti backlash pawl.

Unplug the unit ASAP to prevent the motor(s) from over heating.

Rainsoft well system
H2O Man,
Thanks for the reply. I unplugged it and opened the bypass because water in the house became real salty. I called Rainsoft to come out tomorrow. At $125 a service call, I hated to do it, but no choice I guess. If system is shot and unservicable, I'll try another brand next time. Any thoughts on a good well treatment system? I originally had a sulfer problem, but that went away over time. Thanks! cbd.

RainSoft will not work on a brass valve, they will try to sell you a new valve or a new system... just say no!

You may want to call them and verify this before you waste $125

As for a replacement system... contact your local ECOwater dealer and have them test your water and submit a proposal.

rainsoft well system
H2O Man:
Rainsoft tech came out and said my carbon tower needed a conversion kit to replace the inner parts of the control box. This would be leaving existing valves in place. Total would be $400 for service and parts. He did not have parts on truck, so I am still thinking about it. Since my system is 8 years old, he mentioned upgrading to new digital unit with aerater instead of chloronator for my sulfer problem. New system is $8000, but $4000 with my trade in. Cost for coming out today is $0 since he did no work, which I thought was fair. It would be an another $200 to replace carbon while unit is apart. I would like to get something working quick, because my water is pretty hard with sulfer and iron. What are your thoughts? Thanks. cbd.
p.s. Closest ECOwater dealer is 2 hours away. Don't think that would be feasable for service.

At those prices you ought to want to learn how to do this stuff yourself. For a bit more than their $400 for new parts you can buy a whole new carbon filter with a nonproprietary industry standard Clack WS-1 control valve.

Fleck 5600 settings
It's my understanding that the Fleck 5600 is set to backwash at 2am and this is not adjustable. I'm in the shower at 3am and system is still cleaning itself. Can I set clock off by 2 hours (5pm when it's really 7pm) and trick the valve to backwash at midnight? Thanks. cbd.

Yes you can.

Remember, with a single resin tank softener you will be getting hard water to service while the softener is regenerating. It's a good idea to set the softener regeneration for a time when no water will be used for the duration of the regeneration.
