Hi Everyone,

I have a Rainsoft AM32 24V purchased in '99. Moved 4 times with it in 5 different homes, always worked reasonably well. About a year ago the mechanical timer went out and we had it replace by local dealer with the new style mechanical timer. Seemed to be working fine. About 3 months ago we moved and had it re-installed at our new house. It was fine until the unit was unplugged by a contractor doing unrelated work. After a few days of hard water, I went to investigate and found the problem. After plugging it back in I reset the time on the clock wheel and manually regenerating it. I had mildly softwater from the cold, none from hot. I waited a week or so to see if it would get back on schedule, but no luck. It appears the system goes through each cycle properly when manually started, and the timing motor is turning as evident by the black marker on two teeth moving. However, despite multiple manual flushes, the salt level in the brine tank does not appear to be dropping, nor do I get any softwater. Last night I pulled the small brine hose from the brine take shut of valve to make sure it was actually drawing up the brine. It was. I place the hose directly in the brine take and let it by pass the valve to regenerate. Still only mildly soft on cold.

Any ideas on what to check next??? Is the it possible it's not actually going through each cycle? Is the resin possibly bad?

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Thanks

I would look at the O rings on the piston and brine injector 1st.
I would also check the shut off tabs and the index lever.
All of these items are rubber and they dry rot.

That type of RainSoft valve is obsolete and no longer covered under any warranty.

Are the shut off tabs and index lever on the back side of the timer, inside the black plastic case? If so, I have looked at those and they in good shape, and were replaced with the time. If not, where would I find these items.

Can you give me some pointers on how to disassemble these parts for inspection? I am fairly mechanically inclined but have not messed with this much so I don't want screw it up. Are their reference guides available?

Would I be better off just replaces the whole head? How can I before the resin is still good?

I discovered this when the timer went out after 8 years of ownership and thinking I had a 10 year warranty on the unit.

Thanks
