Rainsoft Amazon Silver

I have the Silver series rainsoft water softener. I believe the control valve is the fleck 5000, as it fits the picture posted by H20_man back in July of 2007. I have done extensive searching, but my eyes are starting to bleed Smile.

The manual to the 5000 is not on the Fleck site anymore. I would like to do my own maintenance on the unit (O-rings and such), but don't really want to tackle it without a manual. Is the ProFlo SE really a direct replacement parts wise? The controls on the timer they show sure look different. Would I benefit by replacing the Whole assembly?

I think the O-rings are bad because we get very salty water in the lines after regeneration.

Oh, and there are 2 manuals on the fleck site for the Proflo SE...One says upflow and one says downflow (I think). What are the differences so I can tell which one (if any) pertains to me? Thanks!

RainSoft made their brass valve obsolete and replaced it with a discontinued Fleck vale ... Brilliant!

Yes, you would be better off upgrading to a metered Fleck 2510 SE valve.

The ProFlo is the official name for the 5000. It has not been discontinued.

It's very likely its internal parts fit your valve. You will have to determine if you have an upflow piston or not.

Two more questions regarding Amazon Silver
1) Would the metered Fleck 2510 SE valve do anything to increase reliability? I've had nothing but trouble with this unit.

2) If I decide to just replace the O-rings and such, where can I get the parts? Rainsoft wants in the neighborhood of $100 or $150 (forget which) to come out and replace a few rubber rings.

You'll have to decide if you want to be a DIYer or dependent on a local dealer.

I'd rather DIY, so I was wondering where to get the parts for the old 5000.

I'm also willing to DIY install a new one...if the benefits are there. I don't understand why these O-rings wear out in just a year Neutral

You are incorrect. The 5000 was discontinued and replaced by the ProFlow - they are not the same.

Yes, the 2510 SE is one of the most reliable control valves made.
It will mate up to your existing bypass and yoke - it's a direct bolt on replacement.

Ok, sounds like that's the way to go. Can you recommend a place to purchase one around the Tampa Florida area? Thanks.

Shop online or find a local independent H2O specialist that handles Fleck.

Good luck, H2O MAN
