@Dutchy,
Holi, also called the Festival of Colours, is a popular Hindu spring festival observed in India
The main day, Holi is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other
The spring season, during which the weather changes, is believed to cause viral fever and cold. Thus, the playful throwing of natural coloured powders has a medicinal significance: the colours are traditionally made of Neem, Kumkum, Haldi, Bilva, and other medicinal herbs prescribed by Āyurvedic doctors. A special drink called thandai is prepared, sometimes containing bhang (Cannabis sativa). Unfortunately the commercial aspect of celebration has led to an increase in the use of synthetic colours which, in some cases, may be toxic.

This is the way shops are stacked up here during this festival...

http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1481/holik.jpg

And this is the way I looked yesterday!!! Aftr some time it was even worse! Spent half an hour crying coz the color hit my eyes and it was paining. Spent 2 hrs with the eye lubricating solution…and spent 2 hours..oiling and bathing!!

@verbivore,
Hi verbivore that sounds and looks like a colourful spectacle but frightening how the stuff affected your eyes though, however the oiling and bathing appeals to me. You look delightfully happy on that photograph and appear to enjoy yourself. Thank you sincerely for sharing this unique occasion with us.

Still half asleep here but I remembered this is Bathsheba's last chemo day -- so I'll be thinking about you and hoping it goes as well as it can.

Izzie, those photos have me yearning for spring. We got another dusting of snow last night! Verbivore I think we need a colourful festival like that to cheer us up in the frozen north.

Waving to the rest of the crew (hope you're resting Mismi!) I've got errands all day and feel a sinus headache coming on...so may not be around much. (Ha! What else is new I hear y'all respond.)

@verbivore,
vb, what a lovely story to wake up to! Well, not the part about the painful eyes... I hope you're red eyes and blue face are all back to normal now. Thanks for the explanation of your festival.

mis -- do rest, hun. It's so easy to find yourself overdoing and then relapsing.

bathy -- thoughts to you today and the days ahead.

g'morning Dutchy, bethie, Iz and the rest of the crew.

We're back in the deep freeze here so keep those lovely spring pics coming!

edit -- cross posted with TC. Stay Warm!!!

@alex240101,
((((Alllllllllllex))))

oh..... I've been casting for a just over month now.... cast on...cast off... times 4 - knitting with my feet - another week or so to go and I will be a cast off again - yay - then - little bit of walking work to do and hopefully - I shall be tango-ing before you can say "snow... what snow?" - your bulbs will be popping up and your cardinals will be canoodling and spring will be upon you, I believe...

I have been taking my vitamins - the orange lid says "alex says take 1" - so I have been.

How are your pickles?

Lovely... lovely to see you. hugs. x

@Izzie,
Hiya Alex - giving up Church for lent is fine with me. I don't observe lent - I probably should - it never hurts to discipline yourself a little! But I be protestant and they don't ask us to...so I don't! Wink

Izzie - I have to do better at taking my vitamins - I abhor taking anything...I am the worst at forgetting and putting off...I do good for a bit - my vitamin B12's seemed to be working for a bit - then I quit and forget that they made me feel better...I'll bet that's just laziness.

I made supper already - and I am very excited about it. I haven't cooked in so long I have almost forgotten how much I enjoy it. I made a basil pesto and broiled some lemon pepper chicken - I chopped it up and tossed it with the yummiest little grape tomatoes and linguine in the pesto and I will add feta (real quality feta) when I serve it. I just had some for lunch too...it was SO yummy. The Prof should be happy after weeks of fast food and frozen food...bless his bones.

Going back to the couch

I am not contagious anymore Izzie - please quit spraying me with Lysol. Wink

@djjd62,
Ha DjjD - good on you mate - I got me one of them... NEVER EVER use it! I'm rubbish! Mine sit next to the tea caddy - HA - can't miss it!

Missy - you sound so much better girlie - so glad you are back onto food - sounds deeeeeeeeelishus. I could definitely eat that.... maybe not the peppered bit - but the rest - yayay.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooh....... I've been having such a green and blue day with a splash of yellow. I LOVE NATURE! It completely amazes me. Mind boggling good.

Little fella is home and warhammering on the floor at the moment. His nose is .... in matching with red nose day tomorrow. No... seriously - it's not too bad at all - a little swollen and getting more freckly from the sunshine (much to his disgust). Tomorrow, at school he will be running a 10K race for Comic Relief RND! We have to phone everyone tonite to see if they will sponsor him. HA!

Been a good day - truly - I get lost in time spent outside looking at droplets of water. Sad..... but true. Post some pics later <yeah yeah... indulge me - little fella has been patting me on the back - "ok Mom, if it makes you happy - bless his freckles!!!!!!!!!!!!>

k........... gotta go and do dinner and feed the child full of something!

I don't suppose S will allow us to see a pic of his lovely mug at the moment, eh?

mis -- your dinner sounds delish. I hope all the he-folk of your household appreciate your efforts. And, yes, do rest as you are able.

I found little green spikes in my garden this afternoon. The chives are up about an inch or two, and the tarragon is pretending to be alive. PROGRESS!!!!

You get sprayed with Lysol? You're lucky. Sister, hubby and I are experiencing various symptoms of coughing, tickling, sneezing, hacking, etc. which we haven't decided whether it is pollen-generated allergies or we've contracted some kind of bug. So hubby obliged by spraying us with some substance that smells like sort of a combination of dirty sweat socks, that moldy green stuff in the back of the fridge, and a wet dog. Lysol would be great. Smile

So how's everybody otherwise on this bright late winter day when it is supposed to be raining here?

The red noses are great. Very Happy
