@devriesj,
back home. whoa whoa whoa..the trip was really hectic. We started off at 7pm from here with a lot of problems to handle! we had to pick up a group of 12 dancers for the event and a MC! we reached at 5.30 and 11am we started the backstage works..preparing the order of the performances, co-ordinating with the DJ for the kind of music he ought to play, with the light men for the kind of lights for each dance he needs to put on, the hostesses as to where they need to stand & invite the guests, the dancers as to how much time they'll get after each dance, the MC's as to what they need to announce and when! Man i got a large large chunk of these responsibilities as the other lady who came with me had to occupy herself with some accounts stuff! O! just cant explain how much i ran, skipped meals and went around for ths stuff! but it was really satisfying to know tht we could make it a huge success! and ya thers no snap that ive gt! tht is still a very sad thng for me..but lemme see if somone from office had clicked some snaps! wil surely post it..it was a beach resort, a five star one, with nice chateaus (pondicherry was a french colony!), beach view, swimming pool and all!
but today i would like to aquaint you with an art form which even i came across just now! in ths trip!
YakshaGana - it is the official dance/traditional dance of the state im living in! Karnataka. Yaksha-gana literally means the song (gana) of a Yaksha. Yakshas were an exotic tribe mentioned in the Sanskrit literature of ancient India. You can also say its a sort of an opera.
There was a fusion dance for our program wherein there was a blend of Bharathanatyam, yakshagana & western dance. They performed to the rhythm of a flute music! I just dont have enuf words to describe the beauty of the dance!
Now am in bits and pieces! back home, my legs paining! and totally exhausted, but yeah i loved it.
