@vonny,
Good Evening Crew
Hoping all our shipmates are doing well still and life is being gentle...
safe and well
News of our Bosun
There has been improvement for our Danny Boy.
he was awake he could write ...
wrote to nurse
“wife”
nurse - wife on way - Anna arrives a few mins later
“where am I?”
Anna – “hospital”
“am I going home?”
Anna – “not yet”
“michael”
Anna “tuna fishing but has visited”
“straighten up”
(strong writing, Anna could understand every word) and she would talk back with him.
nurses sat him up.
Anna had a long talk with doc (she’s a wily character and got the info from a nurse whom she didn’t want to get in trouble).
Doc confirmed: heart and BP all A’OK
infection, staph infection – this they admitted he got in hospital (which is not unusual) BUT– Anna had not been informed of what the infection was and what had caused his lung to have collapsed.
The antibiotics are working and Danny is still “in” and “out” of it, but in his good moments he is able to communicate by writing.
Dialysis is OK. Just need to get rid of the infection and be moved out of ICU.
They are hoping to take out the trach on Monday/Tues and not sure yet whether they are putting in the talking trach – he still needs assisted breathing and food by drips .
Anna sounded great – she was so happy that this is the first time he has realised she has been there and that he could write to her – he IZ on the mend and now we have to wait it out and get him stronger and breathing on his own.
We know that soon our BOSUN writing will be:
“can you sneak in some custard” ........... hehehehhehehhehhehe
Anna reminded him of his dream to drive to PL to see his son and gkids and this is now a wakened goal – all his efforts will be to get well now and get home to his family. He is less agitated and more understanding (he still has no idea how long he’s been in and for the moment we figure it’s best he doesn’t know as this may make him push himself a little too hard to get home). He needs to take it slow and very easy... and time gone-by is not so important as the time he will now have in the future with a good recovery.
He’s exercising his hands and the nurses can see he is already trying to move his muscles and making efforts – this is all a FANTASTIC sign for recovery.
Anna sounded much less strained/sad... a little euphoric actually and animated about Danny asking for her. Up until now he’s had no idea where he was or what was happening or even that she was there. Knowing Anna is beside him will make his recovery so much quicker.
Anna and I are now starting to make up a chore list for him and a chore list for the ship... well, ya know, he’s been gone a while!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great news all around. Thank you FS for forwarding on my letter and pics to Anna by post. I really do appreciate it and know it will mean a lot to Danny when Anna reads it to him. It’s written from “we”... the collective crew and he knows now that everyone is encouraging his wellness.
Thank you crew, for all you do.
Near and far, love... x
Nighty night. xxxxx
