@Izzie,
Hang in there Izzie until you see Doctor on Monday. I can imagine the pain you're suffering, frustrating and agonising. (((Izzie)))

@ehBeth,
yep yep yep yep

had to get the mouse oot the house - little beggar was running around the kitchen Shocked, unless that was another prize, scooped him up and then had to hurl him into the bushes - sure he woulda been fine, he had attitude... Very Happy Nothing in the trap under the sofa tho.

yep, on the weepy - it' still very red and revoltingly ugh, you don't wanna see (that's kinda my diary line for the moment) - it's spread a couple inches up my leg and well underneath my foot - but isn't as painful (or the pain meds are just working really well) and it's warm, but not burning hot - in other words, i can put my big hospital socks on without screaming - and i couldn't do that yesterday - nothing could go near it yesterday.

Massive oedema.... ha, pitting is monstrous if you put a finger on a red bit

so, gotta call the surgeon sec first thing in the morning to get a time to go in and have arranged for my Mom to take me...

ha... makes me laugh, you know that 'help' card - realistically it can only be used the once!!!!!!!, at a push twice, but not for the thrice; admittedly, it was well used. Funny how one realises things later. Nem'mind, ya gotta laugh. That's why it's so hard for me to ask anyone to help. <sigh>

Mom will be happy to take me in and I'm sure he'll just take a quick looksee - I think it's more for the surgeons benefit than mine - he says he finds it very hard to believe I have an infection after seeing how good everything was on Wednesday when they removed the bandages and dressing. I think he's maybe in for a bit of shock and when he reads the A&E notes tomorrow morning, well, will see what he says. And mind, my foot was pretty good on Friday morning - this happened sooooooooooooo quickly, couldn't quite believe how you can go from normal to frikken agony in a few hours - that was pain... real pain. Ah well... and so it goes.

12.45am... what to do... not sure I can focus on a book... hmmmmmmmm

Geez, I'd be travelling to the doc, and I am a stoic sort.

I'd be getting your mother out of her bed.

You have more experience, but this stuff is scary.

I've a childhood friend whose husband had a very poor outcome out of this kind of thing. Not to scare you, but don't be a thoughtful martyr, Iz.

NOT good news. Did they give you any instructions if the swelling spread?

@ossobuco,
It's nearly 1am here and verra verra icy outside and well into the minus figures

not being a martyr, really, would call a 999 if I needed to, or at the least call a doc

don't feel at all ill - not in the slightest
i have the teeeeeeniest fever just under 38 and that's not even really a fever, folks temps go up a little at night
can move my ankle - it goes white from the swelling
have checked the rest of me for any signs of marks and cant see any and don't think my lymph glands are swollen

so all in all, i'm a healthy specimen with a lump of a foot and I'm being vigilant

may have to concede tonight and take another half a sleeping potion - all that sleep last night may mean i don't sleep for days/nights now, tho i do feel fairly fatigued, yep, am fatigued - but that's due to the monotony of doing diddly all day I reckon! Rolling Eyes

@JPB,
well, they said to contact them if it changed at all... but as I'm seeing the surgeon tomorrow, as long as I keep it up, it can wait a few hours - this morning after last night's rest it did feel a lot better

drinking plenty of fluids

i'm just frustrated at not doing anything ya know...

@Izzie,
is there a phone number where you might "contact them" in advance of your appt tomorrow?

I'm guessing them = hospital, yes?

Hospitals don't care what time it is.

@JPB,
errrrrrm... yep, but i had the operation done at one hospital which is not NHS I went to yesterday (its a BUPA hospital) and if I ring them, they will feel obliged to wake the surgeon ... aaaaaack... I don't think I can do that.

Really, i don't think it's gonna change all that much in the next 7 hours and I'm sure my pain threshold would let me know if it was getting worse. Even tho its spread, the spread is not so hot, not like it was yesterday and the fact I can pull the biggie sock on without screaming... well, that's a HUGE improvement, it doesn't feel so "scolded"

the weep is out of the stitch holes (they are disolvable stitches) so maybe that's normal. It's just all puckered up like it's real tightly pulled together.

@Izzie,
both jpb and I are saying to pay attention to the spread.

I don't know that we are right, but don't be ******* nice now, Iz. Move.

You can't wake the surgeon?

Do you want me to pelt you with dried pears?

@Izzie,
Here's the deal.

"Contact us if there's any change" doesn't mean, "don't wake us up in the middle of the night if you think it's ok to wait until morning".

I'm going to go out on a big limb here and suppose that the surgeon has been woken up in the middle of the night before.

Seriously, Iz, you don't seem to realize how serious this "may" be. Call them if there's been any change. Particularly if it's keeping you up all night.

ok ok ok... will call the Nuffield ... thing is, they don't do acute care so... going to Derriford, I would be lying in A&E until morning...

but... I will call them and then at least they will know what to expect in the morning

k... dialing.

oh dear lawd... i feel so guilty... i hate this

who wakes a surgeon up at 2am... <shakes head>

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... not sure what's going to happen - the sister/head honcho seemed worried about the ooooozing and spread so he's ringing the doc

(oh, that makes me feel more ill than any of this going on)

ok... only a few more hours until daybreak and nothing can go too wrong in that time

i do feel absolutely fine, not sick, ill, wishywashy... just normal with a gammy red oozing foot

anyhoo - he's gonna
