This group was organised very much like boy scouts, called the "Lions".
It was a voluntary group that trained boys between the ages of 10 and 15
in military camps to learn the use of small arms and infantry tactics.
In the event of war they would set up roadblocks, conduct ambushes, sniper assaults,
sabotage and psychological warfare operations.

It is worthy of note that for years and decades,
we have seen pictures of Moslem little boys heavily armed
with everything from handguns, submachineguns, automatic rifles
like the ones in your picture, RPGs, etc. and
NEVER,
in all of those years did we know of a single instance
of a kid opening up on his neighbors, shooting up the town,
or causing accidental discharges.
Reminds me of my growing up in Arizona;
( tho we did not have fully automatic rifles, nor SMGs ).
Yet, many anti-liberty leftists complain
that armed children = deadly, hopeless chaos:
