I passed 700 miles today.
Woohoo!

Less than 300 to go.

@George,
Go George!

Gymmed yesterday (elliptical + weights), ran again today (just three laps though, timing issue).

@sozobe,
Gymmed yesterday.

Both trackmom and newbie are busy today, not sure if I'll go running today. Have had four exercise days this week.

I'm still tracking down my old threads (thanks Thomas for advice you gave someone else on another thread that got me back to normal, mostly.) You're all doing great!

My gym started a hip-hop/salsa class last week. I've taken it twice. I'm sure I look ridiculous, but if I stay far enough away from the mirror, my reflection is a blur, which helps. I like new challenges, but I'm glad this class only has a 5 week run. I'll move on to something else after that - maybe yoga.

I'm still trying for some sort of workout 6 x week. Currently two classes, three cardio/weights days in the gym, and walking (outdoors!) on Sundays.

No push-ups this morning.
Shirley wasn't in the mood.

Had a short but pleasant jog at lunch.

My new Nikes feel wonderful. I often pooh-pooh the effect of "just the right
shoe", but these seem to be making a real difference.

shirley you can't be serious.

Had to make up time because Monday was a mess, but did it. Tonight some rest then more walking tomorrow. Plus I've been doing weights in the early AM instead of the afternoon. Dunno if I like that better.

@jespah,
I went out and picked out cushioned industrial floor tiles to set up my space in the basement - have a cd player ready. I think I'm ready to set it up - or at least clear enough space to put down the tiles. DVD player would be nice - mebbe I'll get one in the Labour Day sales for $10. I've had a friend burn some DVD's of different b.d. routines for me to work on.

I'm off to spend the next 14 or so hours walking and going on rides at The Ex. If I can walk tomorrow, I'll get those tiles down.

@George,
680! Wow!

Gymmed today. Ran yesterday, but kinda wimpy. I was the only one who could go (no trackmom, no newbie), and sozlet really wanted to run with me. She lasted one running lap and then begged for mercy. She preferred not to just sit by herself while I kept running. So just one walking lap, one running lap yesterday. I plan to work out every other day this week though so should be fine.

@sozobe,
Soz~
The thing is, you did it.
It keeps the good habit going and gets the system into exercise mode even if
only for a short time.

I did a short one today myself with Two-Mile Mike.
Cool sunny day, some leaves starting to turn.
Hello, Autumn.

Day 2 of walking 1.5 miles each day. Some tenderness but no back spasms yet and a chiro appt scheduled for Thursday to get everything where it's supposed to be. I'll up it to 2 miles next week if I can keep walking this distance without spasms.

@George,
I haven't seen turning leaves yet but definitely it's starting to feel like fall.

Mucho walking, usual stuff that I do. Might be upping the weights, maybe this weekend. I want to finish this week's cycle and if things continue to seem a lil easier it's time for another 5 lbs.

That runner's high may translate into a lot of other long-lasting health
benefits, a new report from an ongoing study suggests. Researchers have found
that regular jogging, or any consistent aerobic exercise, in middle age and late in
life may reduce people's risk of disabilities and help them live longer and
healthier.

@George,
That's cool!

Yeah, definitely autumn breezes around here. Yesterday I was thinking this is my favorite time of year -- kid's in school, weather is still nice. I like late summer and early fall, just start getting bummed when the leaves are gone and it's cold but there's no snow...

Four of us ran today; Trackmom, Newbie, and Newbie2 (another friend of mine, though invited by Newbie). That actually worked out pretty well. Trackmom and I run about the same pace and Newbies 1 and 2 run about the same pace, so we paired off. Then paired off in different combinations for the walking laps for chatting. Walked 6, ran 5. Light rain. Very nice.

A different way to do intervals...

Yesterday I started out at a leisurely pace down the road that runs through this
business ghetto. I turned onto the sidewalk that runs along Rt 129 and was soon
passed by another runner. She was was a trim Asian woman with long, lustrous
dark hair tied back into a ponytail that swished saucily as she ran.

I picked up my pace, staying about 5-10 yards behind her, admiring her...
mechanics. She had excellent mechanics. Then I slowed my pace back
down. When she had buit up a considerable lead, I turned it up a notch till I
was within ten yards again. Then slowed down. Then sped up.

After a couple of miles, our routes diverged. The rest of the jog was
considerably less fun.

Today was day 4 of my 1.5 mile walks. No spasms but my chiro didn't find many points that didn't need adjustment. It's been about a month since my last visit and I've had a lot of back pain so I'm not surprised. He prescribed a special ergonomic desk chair since I spend so much time here in the office. I'm not holding my breath that my insurance will cover it but it's worth a shot.
