Exercise Goals for 2008

OK so I spent a ridiculous amount of time at the shoe store, tried on this, tried on that, tried on the other, and ended up with...

...drum roll...

The exact Air Pegasi I decided on last year!

$79.99 at this place as opposed to $83. Woo.

There was some prejudice involved I'm sure but they're mighty nice.

Haven't had any leg pain since yesterday or so. (Did a lot of yoga-ish yardwork on Saturday) (yoga comes in when you're doing the yard work on a 45-degree slope). Went ahead and met Gym-mom at track today, appraised her of the situation. Walked one, ran one -- not bad at ALL! Walked another, ran another... hmm. Did start to feel twingy on that one so (gasp) didn't run any more laps today. Just walked a couple more, then called it a day. (Gym-mom had run a 5K on the weekend and was in the mood for a shorter workout herself.)

Now feels pretty good -- infinitely better than I felt after running on Friday. I'm optimistic that if I'm smart about it I can just get over it and keep running.

Plan to do some (not-too-strenuous) strength training tomorrow. Mayo has some preventive exercises to do, too.

(Love the shoes.)

Soz--

Congratulations on the shoes--may they continue being delightful.

*********

I forced myself to cycle for twenty minutes today. I've also managed some stretching exercises and given tender attention to my neck muscles.

George--

Good for you.

I have good intentions today--even with rain in the weather forecast.

Cycling and stretching, good going, Noddy.

And George, wow. Back all better?

I was noticeably less sore this morning -- I tend to get out of bed the day after a run with many, many aches and pains (featuring the inner-lower-leg pain that turned out to be shin sprints). MUCH better today. Plan to do that (not-too-strenuous) strength training later today.

We were away and I did weights and resistance bands, but mostly dogged it on the walking. But we did get in one good walk (RP actually ran every day), 35 mins for almost 1.2 miles. Last year I couldn't do 1/4 of that.

Hey, RP, get in here! Didn't know you were a runner.

Glad that walking's going so much better for you, Jes!

I did the strength training as planned. Went fine, nothing too remarkable in either direction. (I wouldn't say I was pain-free, exactly, but it wasn't bad.)

Yes, it is. I didn't rush it, gradually increased my distances, and it came
around.

To borrow your expression: "Gymmed!"

A family affair this morning. Clive and I did our arms-and-legs routine.
Nigel did some treadmill running and weights. The Lovely Bride walked
on the treadmill. On her first day, she tried the elliptical, but realized she
would have to work up to it. Today was her third day and her pace is
getting faster.

Yesterday I was too bloated for bending and stretching, but I cycled for 25 minutes.

these days i'm more of a jogger -- an occasional one at that.
i did manage two 3-mile jogs over the weekend.

back home, i like to do one lap (1.5 mi) around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir.
getting there and back is maybe another mile...

There's a difference between running and jogging? Who knew?

I guess I'm a jogger too at this point then. Hope to work up to something more substantial. (As of now I still find 3 miles impressive though.)

to me the difference is stride-length and knee-bend.
and speed, of course.

sometimes, if i'm "feeling it", i'll finish a jog near a steep hill, and then sprint up that darn hill...

Oh, OK.

Maybe I'm running then?

We go pretty fast. (Then walk, then go again...)

I definitely could go further if I was going more slowly. We usually semi-sprint (semi!) the last 100 yards of a 400-yard lap.

I always have this "faster, faster!" thing going on, and have a hard time maintaining a slow-but-steady pace. (But then I go and get shin splints... sigh.)

The slow then fast is good -- interval training.

Someone asked me the difference and I said "Attitude".

Hell yeah!

Got in five and quarter and then my hammies cramped with a half mile to go.
Must have been dehydrated.
Nice run, though. 65F with a very light off-and-on drizzle.

End of Week One of Coughing It Up. I staggered to work, I staggered home SA SU MO TU WD and I'll stagger there now. No miles.

Not feeling down though, just feeling antsy. Tomorrow I'm off, (Ah, Sleep) and then I'm looking forward to putzing around the uptown loop on Sunday and Monday.

George is right, it's attitude.

Attitude is one part of your brain convincing all the other parts that anything is possible.
