I don 't believe that matrimonial relations
are any of government 's business,
except as to enforcement of contracts.

Shud we grant government power
to decide how many wives we can have ?

If the wives & husbands freely give their agreement, then who cares? It's no one else's business.

(However, there could be a few legal challenges for the offspring, down the track!)

Why anyone would want to have more than one wife is beyond me.

How about 2 husbands, eh? Or more...

Sad story is, the people who currently live a polygamous life in this country,
are all on welfare. They (polygamist men) cannot provide for the brood
they produce and their multiples wives, and the government has to step
in to help them out.

If they're self-sufficient and contractual secure, well, let them feel the
pain of more wives.

I have found 0 to be the optimal number of wives.

Well I can see why people (male or female) might want more than one partner. It is possible to love & co-exist with more than one person a one time.

But, it could get very, very expensive! You could end up with lots of mouths to house & feed!

Wilso, here's an Oz example: (well respected) actor, Jack Thompson & his two wives (& children, I guess). I don't know if this situation still exists, but they all seemed rather happy with it, not all that long ago.

Divorce proceedings would be rather 'interesting', as would inheritances.. Life is simpler with a rule against polygamy, even though I guess only religions would have any real objection against it.

I wonder...what would happen if a guy married two girls, and one of those girls was married to two guys, and one of those guys was married to ...

...and they didn't all live in the same house (which I'm sure would end in a bloodbath if ever it was tried).

If polygamy were widespread, it would be detrimental to society. Too many young men without the prospect of a wife or girlfriend is not a good thing.

if 3 people give their consent and want to get married then why stop them? it's their life. I guess government prohibits it because then they would have to deal with a lot o laws, like who's gona get the kids, how they gona get divorced, who's gona get the money and stuff like that, so they just lazy.
