Thank you George for your rather harsh and presumptuous comment. Well, before I was born, I wasn't "having" anything. When you are dead, you won't be able to comprehend the fact that you were having more fun when you were alive, so the fact is irrelevant. Who's the dumb one now?

Sorry for the harsh tone.

You're making my point. It's the very fact of being unable to comprehend
anything that would cause me to fear it. The knowledge that once I was
nothing does not make the thought of becoming nothing again less fearful.

I do not fear death.

I don't think I was anything before I was me. I probably won't be much afterwards, either.

But, as you've stated, I won't know the difference.

I do not fear death.

I DO fear Gus.

And pretty soon you're gonna have something else wrapped around Gus, Lash... if you take him up on his offer, that is. What the heck, give the poor swamp guy a Christmas present! "Rawhide" indeed! Very Happy

I don't fear death either, and I don't think I was dead before or nothing... I think it will be a wonderful relese...and JPB said it best - great line, JPB - I think I'm gonna steal that for my sig line.

"I'm not afraid of death either. It's the getting there that gives me occasional pause."

RH, you criticise me yet fail to provide any reasoning.

JPB, I also agree with you fully.

George,
you may fear it now, but you shouldn't. There is nothing to be fearful of, and besides, taking into account that the only comprehension you have exists when you are alive, you should try not to fear, for it will not achieve anything. I put emphasis on the "try".

Did not care for the overall tone of your posts on Christmas Eve, but not looking to fully engage you at this point.

I'm a bit opinionated at times, and fearless mostly, but not flippant about that which I don't understand....

I would fear the total extinction of myself. I believe that that is plenty to be
fearful of. If I were to put a loaded gun to your head and tell you to sit
down, would you? Even if you really didn't want to sit down? Of course you
would. Why?

For one thing, fear has helped achieve the survival of the species.

aperson, I'm gonna give you the patience I do my teenage niecees and nephew.

Perspective gives a more realistic viewpoint.

Discuss.
Forgive me, but this is dumb. The thought of returning to nothingness
scares the bejeepers outta me.
Tell me, were you having more fun while you were being "dead for billions of years"
than you are now? If so, I respectfully submit that your life sucks.

I like the way Deepak Chopra, M.D. put it:
" Many people believe that we are human beings
with occasional spiritual experiences,
but we are spiritual beings with occasional human experiences."

The way I read it, this passage implies that death is not total extinction
of the self.

One way to look at it,
is that your shoes wear out,
but u don 't stop walking.

RH, January. I find it sad that you have had to resort to put downs.

George, I fear unnatural death. I don't fear death by old age. What's the point? It won't help me. I want to live, but fear of eventual death is pointless.

aperson, I am not putting you down. I was nicely pointing out for those unaware, that we have a highly intelligent, curious minor among us for those that may infer from your confrontational attitude that you are older...

It's sad. Your view of me is forever twisted. I cannot debate with someone who thinks of me as an inferior.

I have proved my intelligence and maturity. I am the same person I was before. Don't treat me differently.

I knew revealing my age would weed out the goats from the sheep.

It is making me be more gentle with you...

I have no basis on which to consider you inferior, I am trying to be fair.

I do not doubt your intelligence. I simply have seen glimpses of your path, and maturity is a growth process. Your journey still has a twist or two,
you just have not grasped the enormity of what it REALLY means.

It helps to debate on equal footing when one knows that he is dealing with a pupil, grasshopper.
