Small turbine generator connected to house water supply

Could I connect a small water turbine in line with my house water supply to generate electricity when I use the water? I found this website with a(rather expensive) inline pump / generator to give an idea of what I'm talking about http://www.nooutage.com/npat-hh.htm . However, a car water pump connected to an alternator (generator) might would work and would be much cheaper. Has anyone done this or have any ideas if its possible/worthwhile?

Using an automotive water pump as a motor is a clever idea. Worthwhile? I doubt it. You would have to use or waste an awful lot of water to generate useful amounts of water.

I have seen some fairly crude generators breadboxed together with a gasoline engine and an alternator. They work well when portable DC is available, since all, or most recent alternators include the voltage regulator.
