I was given a rainsoft water softener. I was told that it was used for about 2 year and was removed and has sat for about 4yrs. I was not given a manual or any info with it. It is very hard to find good info about rainsoft systems (mostly post about how bad rainsoft is). I am pretty handy around the house and have done some irrigation and some plumbing. I have read several of the forum post and have a basic understanding of how to install the system, but I have a few questions. Here are a few pics to give you an ideal of what I have. P.S. I have the brine tank I just did not take any pics of it.
1. I am not sure how to set up the systems timer.
2. I am not sure what the wire that looks like it has been snipped is for?

You have an obsolete AM24 with an electromechanical timer.
The raw water enters the rear middle and exits the left side.
Install it with a 3 valve bypass and make all of your connections
Plug it in, set the time and 1 regeneration a week.
Let us know how it goes...
The problem is I have have nothing on the end of the wire to plug in. Do I need a transformer, or can I just wire a plug to it and I'm rdy to go?
