DUTCH APPLE FRENCH TOAST
Adapted by BumbleBeeBoogie
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup maple syrup
2 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced 1/4" thick
1/2 loaf sliced cinnamon raisin-nut bread
3 large eggs
1/2 quart of milk or half-and-half
1-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Heat the sugar, butter and syrup until thick and syrupy. Pour into a 10" x 12" or 15" inch pan. Spread the apples over the syrup.
Cut the crusts off the bread and layer the bread slices over the apples.
Beat the remaining ingredients together and pour the mixture over the bread slices.
Refrigerate overnight. Preheat over at 350 degrees F. Bake for 45 minutes. Dust with sifted powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup.
Why, uh, why, that's decadent.
