I don't like Belichick because of his personality and his nasty 'tude. I really like what he's accomplished and appreciate his coaching. As a person he's not that great. I can distinguish my feelings between him as a coach and as a person.

The only thing I dislike about his coaching was his running up the score during a few games this season and not taking out Brady in the 4th quarter of games that were beyond reach. IMHO, It's just not worth the risk...especially with teams that were weak and when they had 3 touchdowns on them.

is it running up the score?
i think it's just playing football.

the defense is compelled to stop the offense -- that's their job.
if they can't do it, how can you ask the offense to stop doing their job?

When the game is clearly out of reach, then it's out of reach. Would it be even remotely possible for the rest of the team to turn into pumpkins without Brady? As an alternative, they could have run the clock down with running plays.

Why risk the possibility of causing an injury to the most valuable player on the field...and your meal-ticket to the playoffs and Super Bowl? I think it's foolhardy mis-use of superior talent.

Of course, I must admit, this advice is coming from someone who has never coached even a kid's football game.

i agree that they should take the starters out when the game's outta reach... but i don't think they should stop competing just because it's a blow-out.

Not meaning to sound argumentative, but where did I say that should stop competing?

So you personally know Bill Belichick? I'm only half trying to sound like a wise-ass, but you do realize it's not his job to be the media's friend, right? If you've ever heard his interviews on WEEI sports radio, he's actually very personable with those guys. They don't ask him stupid f'n questions like "why does Randy Moss catch a lot of 1st down receptions." They ask respectful, intelligent questions, and they get the same returned in his answers. Those beat writers at the press conferences are complete retards, and if I were a coach I'd be chewing them out like Parcells used to.

As far as running up the score, you're a little off there too. In the games where they "ran up the score," Brady's last drives of the game started in the 3rd quater, and went into the 4th. They're not going to take him out mid-drive. AND, that early in the season, they need to work on certain plays and execution, so they're going to run plays to help improve the team, even if they're up by 30.

On top of it Ragman, calling him out as a person? It was reported he stopped his car on the highway to help someone who's car was flipped on the side of the road. What a scumbag.

Being critical of Belichick doesn't mean I have to know him in order for my criticism to be legitimate. Just because he doesn't kiss ass with stupid media questions ... is not an area with which I have too much of a problem. In fact, I enjoyed Parcell's and Belichick's dumping on reporters dumb questions. It's a sport they both have perfected. What I don't like at times is when reasonable questions from intelligent media get treated like crap. They are trying to do their job and that publicity is part of being a coach/representative of and for the team.

And...and my criticizing the coach for not pulling Brady when games are out of reach is something common to many that are far knowledgable than I am. I'm sure you've heard this criticism before. What is so unusual or odd about a good or great coaches pulling their valuable QBs in the late stages of the out-of-reach games?

I have to disagree with you. If he's asked a semi-intelligent question, he doesn't return it with sarcasm. Like tonight, a reporter asked about the big 4th down stop the Pats defense had while Pit was on the goal line. Belichick then talked a little football. When he's asked stupid questions he's short with them. On top of it, he's not going to give much up for info.

Like I said, they pulled Brady out after drives that started in the 3rd quarter. That's reasonable. However that still doesn't have much to do with them "running the score." If you want to argue that, talk about them going for it on 4th down while up by a ton, which they've done this season.

4th down scenarios: that's part of my criticism too. Isn't that supportive evidence of what I'm saying?

And, I'm not suggesting taking Brady out in a drive that he started.

OK here's something that is somewhat of a parallel that is live to chew over: Dungy just pulled Manning while ahead 44-7 over the Ravens.

Yes, but the counter argument on the 4th downs goes back to what I was saying: they're practicing plays against live competition. This is pro football, not pop warner. If the other team has a problem with it, then stop them. Actually I haven't heard much from opposing players or coaches whining about it, just media.
