There isn't a forum that covers these states, but I wonder if there are any A2Kers out here who want to meet, chat, exchange information?

clary :
i have never been in that part of the world - tunesia was the farthest i ever got in that general area - and that's still a LONG way from the UAE - , and even there i spent only a day on a shore excursion .
have seen some "travelogues" describing a bit of UAE and oman , that's about it . the UAE are in the news here recently , but oman is hardly ever mentioned .
perhaps you can give us some information about life in UAE and post some pictures ?
just remember that CNBC featured the UAE earlier this week - certainly looked most interesting .
i doubt that i'll ever get to see it personally , but wouldn't mind learning about life there .

A comfortable 28 or so at the moment, actually the nicest beach experience I've ever had, the sand so clean and pleasant, the ability to drive onto the beach, the temperature perfect, the sea clean and warm, the hassle nonexistent.
Great place for a holiday! My travel thread has some more detail, this leg of my life's journey starts on or around http://www.able2know.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20684&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=900
- enjoy!

thanks , clary !
i always enjoy seeing and learning about places that are new to me .
sunday morning we usually watch CNBC for a while when they report from around the world - usually by local reporters . this morning there were reports about the business prospects in saudi-arabia and also a very interesting SHOPPING excursion to one of the supermalls in singapore - just stupendous !!!
it reminded me somewhat about our south-america cruise last year . the ship stayed overnight in buenos aires - lots of time to do sightseing on our own . the contrasts were quite stark : many beggars around the cathedral and next a "guarded" shopping center that looked more like the inside of the sistine chapel !
we were taken from the ship to he shopping center by a limousine - courtesy of the merchants ; upon arrival , a smartly dressed security guy opened the limousine door , checked us over and declared us fit to enter "the temple of the merchants" . we have NEVER before seen such opulence ; even 5th avenue stores coudn't hold a candle to it !
looking forward to learning more !

A friend of mine went to Oman a while back. I must admit that Oman
wasn't really a country I had heard so much about, but that whole flower-power president seems like a catch.
Must be amazing - sort of

At the moment I'm seething with the extra money charged by hire car firms to get there, plus the exorbitant prices of their hotels. Sad It had better be worth it.

Me too, it will be interesting to see it - but I will continue to use the Clary's Travel Digression thread for my impressions, this was really an attempt to find local A2Kers, but there don't appear to be any, or at any rate, not reading this thread!

Doesn't look that way, does it?

OK then, I'll look forward to reading your impressions of the place, Clary. Lonely Planet, eat your heart out!
