Crying or Very sad
I left work early today because I'm feeling under the weather. Sorry if this grosses anyone out but I really needed to get home and to the bathroom. Wouldn't ya know it I got pulled over and given a $300.00 ticket.

should I get one of those quicky lawyers to deal with the ticket? They're expensive but worth it????

You live where I do. Read the back of the green copy.

My choices on the back of the green ticket are:

Mail check

Mitigation hearing--I agree to committing the infraction and the court MAY reduce fine and it goes on my record

Contested Hearing- Go before the judge and say that I didn't commit the infraction

All three options have the infraction going on my record.

Now, has anyone hired a lawyer to make a ticket go away?

How about traffic school?

I was just telling Diane yesterday about the time I got a ticket somewhere on the 405 around Westminster for going 68 in a 65 mile an hour zone.
"Lady, Volkswagens shouldn't go that fast....". I was younger and dumber then, should have fought it, but I lived a lot of miles north.

Don't know about PNW, but a lot of States have started a traffic diversion program. You go x-long without, and it comes off your record, .....for a price$$$.

It used to be that you could go to traffic school and have it excised - have no idea if that is true in your state now.

$300 ticket for speeding? How fast is fast?
The 3rd option actually says it goes on your record?

Marty, go to traffic court and the judge might reduce the fine
if you tell him/her why you were speeding, and that you're willing
to go to traffic school (you can do that online too).

Fast is all I'm going to say. If I lose with contesting, it will go on my record. I don't see contesting this and being won on my own behalf.

I'd like this to not go on my recoed. Hopefully someone has tried the lawyer method and can tell me how that worked out.

I also like the online option of trying to get the fine reduced. Maybe I'll have to look into that.

I can't tell you in your jurisdiction. I CAN say, DO NOT represent yourself in traffic court, you WILL lose.

I occasionally pop in just to watch traffic court, and I know from which I speak. It can be hilarious at times. Laughing

Ask other professionals in your town, I am sure someone can point you to an attorney with the pull to fix it. In my neck of the woods, (we have no woods, just wheat) it's around a grand to start.

If there are different types of speeding tickets, you might be able to plead it down to a lesser speeding ticket which would still go on your record but would do so at the lesser ticket.

You could take your chances and hope the police officer doesn't show up on the date you are scheduled for court. But if you lose the judge could increase the fine and court costs because you contested the ticket.

Yes, but if she admits to being guilty, and is willing to attend traffic school,
the judge will reduce the fine. When I was in traffic court last year (illegal
right turn on red), I had about 10 traffic offenders ahead of me, and in
almost every case the fine got reduced. Mine actually got reduced to half
(since I had two tickets (2 turns on red Embarrassed )

No, but I've been on the other end of that transaction.

Lawyers who do a lot of traffic work know the system, and -- generally speaking -- can probably get you a better deal than you trying to figure it out on your own. Might be a loophole they spot to get you out of it entirely.

I'm surprised at the attitude.

1. its against the law to speed because speeding endangers other road users.

2. you were speeding ie breaking the law.

3. Do the crime, do the Time.

You got caught fair'n square.

pay up. Learn the lesson.

Nobody pays any attention to your "record" where speeding or parking fines are concerned.

The insurance companies do when it comes to traffic violations.

Oh for heavens sake, relax. I made a mistake, got caught and don't want my insurance rate to go up. It's not like I was driving down the road and decided that I wanted to stick it to the man and break the law. I was distracted and anxious to get home to a toilet and exceeded the speed limit.
