Every once in a while my computer "mouse" stops working. If I then pull its plug out of the tower and plug it back in, it starts working again.

Do I need a new mouse? Or is there another problem? Caused by what?

Absolutely no need for the quote marks around the word mouse. (We know it isn't a real live mouse!) I am guessing it is a USB mouse. They do this sometimes. A USB connector is a flat oblong shaped plug like you see on pen drives. It is the only kind you can pull out and plug in again while the PC is working, so I guess it must be. if you have other USB ports you could try plugging it in one of those.

The other type is a PS/2 mouse (nothing to do with Playstations). This has a round connector. Since all PCs have a PS/2 mouse socket, you could try getting a USB-to-PS/2 adapter and plugging it in there, if it IS a USB mouse. I chose to do this because my USB mouse, like yours, kept going into frozen mode.

New mice are not expensive. if you are still struggling with a ball mouse, this might be the time to get an optical one.
