In search of an inexpensive kitchen facelift

Hi. I'd like to move ASAP and would like to fix up my kitchen--the cheaper the better. I started renovating once before, but stopped because I didn't like where it was going. Here's what I have: honey-oak high-gloss cabinets (dated), brushed aluminum handles (new) brushed aluminum/frosted glass fixtures (new). There is white glossy ceramic tiles (6x6 I think) for the backsplash and continuing as waynescotting in the rest of the room (yuck). The window casings match the cabinets. The floor needs to be done. The countertop has to stay (light cream/beige). I am willing to paint everything (including the tiles because they have to stay) and I'd like to redo the floor also. My appliances are white and the adjacent rooms are deep red (diningroom) and light mustard yellow that match the light birch floors (I'm thinking of carrying this color into the kitchen)--help!!!!!

What kind of floor do you have? We had linoleum in an old house and did a cheap face lift with high quality peal and stick linoleum tile right over top of the old stuff. We got a good deal on leftover runs from home depot -- two kinds of tile. We did an alternating pattern and it looked very nice.

I don't know how handy you are with the cabinets, but paint sounds like a good option. A friend of mine had her cabinets painted and cut the doors down and rehung them so that they fit flush and looked very old fashioned but cute cute cute. Not sure what you can do about the tile.
