I have an old painting here , i do not know much if anything about paintings.
my mother says it is oil, all i know is it is original canvas and the paint is raised texture. It seams to be very old but in great condition.
I bought this one at an estate sale and wondered if anyone could help identify this one.
Any help would be appreciated !

Yes,It is most likely oil and it is done by a professional. It is a very good painting.

Be carful who you take it to and don't sell it intill you are POSITIVE what it is.

And go rent "Who the !@#$ is Jackson Pollick"

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0487092/

If you come back I will see that I show other art people this thread.

If I could read the signature, at least try to Google the name. I have googled what i thought it could be . This picture does no justice for the painting , it really is in excellent condition. I love it . I am in such a very small town here in Tennessee and I don't think there is anyone near that could even start to give me info on this one. I am hoping that someone out here will be able to help me out, as I am clueless when it comes to art.
Thanks for your help!

You have come to a good place. I will direct the art savy people here to this thread and we will see what we can come up with. They have been here for many years and are very nice and we love this kind of thing.

A Mystery!!!! Oh boy.

Check back in a couple of days if you don't see anything right away.

P.S. you could be rich. Cool

I'm wondering if it is a chinese painting of the three gorges, or a painting of the three gorges by an american.

There used to be a great website out of san francisco that had a lot of chinese paintngs on it, and I liked a lot of them, not just the traditional ones either.

I forget the name of the site - a california friend had some of his work on it as well - but it folded more than two years ago, for some reason.
Art Mecca, or Arts Mecca, something like that.
Maybe somehow it's back up online again.

I like the painting too.

Have to go back and stare at the signature some more.

You live in Tennessee, hmmm.

Here's a completely wild guess --

I looked up Sanda and Three Gorges and found a guy named Yu Sanda involved in the hydraulics of the new dam there.

Doesn't Tennessee have dams with the TVA? (pardon my ignorance).

Maybe Z Sanda is related? and Yu has had something to do with hydraulics in Tennessee?

here's that link - (look at the table of contents) -

I should have explained, I think that is a classic view of the Three Gorges pre-dam, the dam being fairly recent.

I have a chinese brush painting of it myself, which is why I picked up on it.

edit - Mr. Sanda is mentioned in more links to the Three Gorges dam construction, but not so much in hydraulics. (oops).

There is a series of dams built by the TVA. Some were started in the early 1930's. I found this concerning hydaulics in TN dam construction.

"TVA completed Ocoee Dam No. 3 in 1942. It exploits the mountainous topography in a ... saved this monument to early hydraulic engineering."

I will search further, maybe Mr. Sanda had a relative that had sent him this picture while working on a dam here? Just a guess....Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
